Book Reviews of The Wu-Tang ManualBook Review: Fantastic Read Summary: 5 Stars
I could not set this book down once I started reading it.
It is a great book for anyone who is new to the Wu. It startsoff with great little bios about each artist, but it quickly gets into Wu-history and philosophy that rewards any fan of the group and does what any comic/book/speaker does; it makes you want to explore what RZA's philosophy is even more. This book also, amazingly, does all this with no chest beating. RZA comes off proud, but humble. This is something that 95% of all modern musicians could never do.
Book Review: Hip Hop @ it's Best, God Summary: 5 Stars
This book is one of the best things that happened to me. This sh*t is tight as all hell. It made me start thinking of things like chess and philosophy and relating them to everyday life. Cop this book EARLY!
Book Review: I just had to speak...... Summary: 3 Stars
I've never reviewed anything on here before, but oh boy, I just had to drop a few quick words after I saw these other reviews, which are hilarious to say the least. The book is average. To see people say things like "this book has given me more knowledge and wisdom than anything i've read in years", "A really good book, that makes you understand stuff you dont know" and "Im reading the book now and it has changed my whole perspective on the world in just about an hour", is both frightening and disturbing. You guys really ought to read more.
Basically, aside from the brief sections on the history of the Wu-Tang Clan, and it's members, the book is essentially useless. If you're interested in any of the philosophies or influences it refers to, then you'd do much better to buy books based on them, where you might actually learn about them in detail, rather than reading a few of Rza's opinions on them.
No disrespect to the Rza, the book is well enough written, I just didn't find anything other than the information about his and the rest of the Clan's history, to be particularly interesting, or informative.
I would have rather given it a 2.5/5, but since you can't give half stars, I decided to be generous.
Book Review: Looks Like the Work of a Masta Summary: 5 Stars
This book is essential for any Wu Tang fan! RZA gives his thoughts on supreme mathematics, the dao of the wu, various drugs, and everything in between. This book certainly not a great read, but if you are a true fan it is easily overlooked. How can RZA go wrong?
Book Review: Must Have Summary: 5 Stars
The Wu are probably the greatest hip hop group ever. The RZA is an absolutely genius. The best thing about this manual is that it finally proves to naysayers the depth and achievements of Wu-Tang as innovators and true street poets, who broke down so many barriers in hip hop and music generally. Alot of the Wu philosophy is revealed and RZA's descriptions are connoted with autobiographical and historical references that are really interesting, to any true Wu fan. I still listen to Wu avidly and people laugh at me because everyone else was through with them in high-school. But just get the latest MASTA KILLAH joint - the Wu are still amazing.
