Book Reviews of The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living DeadBook Review: A must buy! Summary: 5 StarsWhat a brilliant and original book. Full of hilarious scenario's and some fun 'science book' style diagrams.
Book Review: Great Zombie Book Summary: 5 StarsThis book is written in a very serious manner - this is not a comedy book! The author has obviously spent some serious time and brain-power thinking up strategies for living in and dealing with a world where the undead walk. It is well written and a compelling read. By the time I had come to the end, I had to remind myself that Zombies are not real. Excellent book.
Book Review: A serious read, essential for any survivalist Summary: 4 StarsWhilst there is no shortage of publications available for survivalists, one area which has been neglected for a long time is how to survive an attack from the living dead. The Zombie Survival Guide is a welcome attempt to fill this niche, with practical advice on how to identify an outbreak of the zombie virus, and how to avoid joining the undead hordes yourself. The book is split into seven sections. The first section separates zombie myth and reality, detailing zombie behaviour and classifying different types of outbreak. Later sections deal with weapons and combat techniques, immediate and long-term defence, travel within an infested region, and how to turn a group of civilians into an effective search-and-destroy force. The final section offers detailed accounts of zombie attacks throughout history; an appendix also provides a short outbreak journal. The details on protecting a private residence I found particularly useful, as knowing how to get through the initial chaos and confusion is critical. I'm now prepared to fortify my home defences at a moments notice, and appreciate the importance of destroying the staircase -- zombies, with their poor coordination, are essentially unable to climb. The best approach when the dead first rise is to hide out of reach and earshot, and to stay put with plenty of supplies for as long as possible. One minor point against the book is that it's primarily written for an audience in the United States. As a result, some of the information -- notably the details on firearms -- isn't applicable to the UK or other countries. Nonetheless, The Zombie Survival Guide is well laid out, and imbued with an unrelenting tension, much like the living dead themselves. It has exactly the no-nonsense approach that is required in a time of crisis, and should be essential reading for anyone who wishes to protect themselves and their loved ones from zombie attack.
Book Review: I'm ready for the war... Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a life saving, life giving, bible of how to's, and why fors, in the fight against the legion of undead that are just around the corner from getting up and eating the rest of us hard working, peace loving, living, citizens. Concerning everything you need to know in the war on the Ghoul, from keeping oneself fit to fight, down to the tools of the undead killing trade, through to the locations best suited for defence against hordes of rampaging, never yealding undead. Written in a no nonsense, analytical style, this book takes you through the A to Z of anti-zombie protection. Chapters include details on how and why zombies come to be, what science can tell us, and most importantly, what all this means to us, not only as knowledge, but vitally as power. Power over the undead scum that are ready to inhabit the earth (outbreak: class 4). People of the earth, I implore you, buy this book, buy it today. Save yourselves from the grasping cold hands of death that you will otherwise succumb to if you do not. A great book. Brooks is a genius. And remember, if you live near a graveyard, sell up and move to the city.
Book Review: Exactly What It Says On The Tin Summary: 3 StarsAs the other reviewers have said this is a deadly serious guide to how to survive a zombie apocalypse. I can't fault it for that and it does make you think not just about this somewhat unlikely event but also how the techniques might be applied in general to any period of civil unrest. My gripe is that there isn't the slightest trace hint of irony throughout. If you're the sort of person who enjoys survival guides in general then you'll get your money's worth but for me it's a silly subject treated with far too much grave (arghh) attention to detail.
