Book Reviews of The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living DeadBook Review: required reading Summary: 5 StarsForget teaching arithmatic and table manners, this is what kids should be learning in school. Had I not stolen a copy of this book in Arizona, that zombie uprising outside of Sedona could easily have gone the other way. God bless Max Brooks and Husqvarna Chainsaws!!!!
Book Review: ORIGINAL TAKE ON THE ZOMBIE PHENOMENON Summary: 5 StarsBrooks has written a fantastic "manual" that complements perfectly his main work, WORLD WAR Z, as it provides some relevant information regarding the solanum virus and fills in other gaps. The best part for me is at the end when Brooks produces a historical record of zombie attacks, from the Romans until now. These are the seeds of many possible zombie stories waiting to be written.
Book Review: A good companion to World War Z Summary: 3 StarsI read this book prior to World War Z (after buying the two together) and found it gave me a good insight at what the characters in that book had been told to do prepare themselves for survival in the "Zombie War", as there are references to it throughout.
It seems that Brooks has put a lot of thought into this book, treating it as though he was really writing a manual for a zombie outbreak, as the tactics and survival tips are very descriptive and go into very deep detail and also include diagrams in most cases.
As a stand-alone book, 'The Zombie Survival Guide' is probably a bit of a waste of money, but if you treat it as an introduction to World War Z, it is a pretty decent (and novel) read.
Book Review: Use Your Head: Cut Off Theirs!! Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a must read for any horror fan. As soon as i picked up the book for the first time and started to read the first page that was it. I was hooked!!! The book covers everything you need to know on how to deal with the undead from close combat fights with a zombie to why wearing plate mail is a very bad idea. This is a amazing book and I can't wait to get stuck into Max Brooks second zombie book World War Z.
Book Review: Information packed Summary: 4 StarsWell, I read World War Z first and really enjoyed it so sought out the authors first book. Whilst not being as enoyable as WW Z, this is very much a different kettle of fish. I love my Zombies, and as such I am aware of much of the folk lore and film lore behind Zombie survival, this will however be of great help to the Undead unaware out there.
One main criticism of the book, is that it has a bit of a American slant to the survival tips (which the author admits).
Overall get fun, but as another reviewers has commented, read this before World War Z.
