A great textbook for senior undergraduate or graduate students interested in thin films and surfaces. Explains theoretical concepts clearly and comprehensively as well as giving all the details an experimentalist needs to understand and including all those useful little equations that help you optimise conditions in your own deposition system (all without getting bogged down in reams of mathematics). It is more than an introductory text, yet still remains accessible to the unfamiliar reader. Even though it was published almost 10 years ago I have yet to encounter an out-of-date piece of information, and despite the issuing of a new edition of Ohring's text ('Materials Science of Thin Films') this book is definitely still the better of the two.
