Book Reviews of Things Fall ApartBook Review: Involving Summary: 4 StarsIf I could a word to describe "Things Fall Apart" it would be:Involving The activities of one of the most superior warriors of a Nigerian tribe really make the reader worry, understand and sympathise with the seemingly trivial, at least in this "modern world", route through life of this warrior. The introduction of the European missionaries also raises moral questions due to their disuniting and general degrading effect upon the involved tribes.
Book Review: One of the finest novels of the 20th Century Summary: 5 StarsI can't praise this novel highly enough. Achebe is a master storyteller, and although his writing became more ambitious and complex later on, Things Fall Apart must still be his greatest work. Why? It's a joy to read: Achebe takes you to (just) pre-colonnial nigeria and paints such a vivid picture that you feel like you're there. He manages this with an astonishing economy of style and a pace of narrative which leaves you breathless (straight up). If you only read one African novel - and you should read more - make it this one.
Book Review: intriguing Summary: 5 Starsas a writer, chinua exploits the culture of nigeria. he brings alive the culture that was soon forgotten after the white man came in. he shows us ho dangerous pride gets and the idea that revenge is a demolition of all hatred. chinua implys that for things to stay together, the middle bit has to be ready for anything. he uses the thoery the together we stand, divided we fall. as a reader, i couldn't help but to be swept in to his description of the eastern part of nigeria. we remain capturise even at the end of the book.
Book Review: Few books have made me laugh and cry at the same time Summary: 5 StarsThis has got to be one of the finest books of our time. It explores the realities of cololinalism and the beginings of the great atrocity of slavery, while holding a torch to such distinctly humnan emotions as pride, jealousy and love as they transend all peoples and times. However before anything this is a human book and the real reason I take my hat off to Achebe is that while treading on fragile ground he still prompts the reader to do two very simple things - laugh and cry.
Book Review: How the change oa nation killed a great worrior Summary: 5 StarsWhat i find strange about this book is how a nation could come in a ruin another one. I feel for Okonkwo because he see what is coming and don't like it. Okonkwo might have been a mean person in his own way but he meant well. I guess at that time it was alright to be curel to women and to me all the men in this story was mean to the second wife and below. Okonkwo was the main character, but Ikemefuna played a role in the changing of Okonkwo. Just the death of this kid took alot out Okonkwo and he did not recover from that. This was a good book and you can compare some of our society with the Nigerian's. I would recommend that this book be read iin middle school.
