Book Reviews of Things Fall ApartBook Review: Almost Addictive Summary: 5 StarsThis book is one of the most exciting books ever (being concidered readable by a 13 year old this has to be good!)This is the sort of book you will just not put down Onkonkwo is the poor victim who works hard for his life but when things seem just perfect his life starts going down the hill rolling to the bottom with the dreaded white missionarys pushing him down and his own tribe with the odd shove and he knows what's happening but he can't do a thing about it this is funny and sad and it leaves you with a strange feeling when you finish it and it's almost addictive!!!
Book Review: aight Summary: 4 Starsi feel that the author should have taken a more partial view towards either the obi tribe or the white man. i had to read this book in english and although it taught us a lot, i felt that didn't have a great ending moral. "when all gets too tough then hang yourself"...i felt that that gave people an excuse to run away from their problems. I don't agree with that aspect of it!
Book Review: Powerful and moving Summary: 5 StarsIn many ways, 'Things Fall Apart' confirms Achebe's status as one of the seminal writers of contemporary prose fiction. Powerful and moving, it is a novel that offers an intelligent and perceptive approach to historical and social perspectives inherent in African culture. While perhaps not as compelling as Achebe's 'Anthills of The Savannah', it is nevertheless a thought-provoking work from a very original writer.
Book Review: A must have for anyone interested in Africa. Summary: 5 StarsThis book was recommended to me by my penpal who is Kenyan. He said it would help me to understand African culture and beliefs. He was right. This must be read by anyone interested in Africa. Although it is written by an African author it remains objective, tells you the facts and lets you make up your own mind anout how you feel. I loved it !!
Book Review: One of the best books I have read Summary: 5 StarsAlthough I had to read this book for my school exams, I found it in no way a chore. The book is beautifully written, with Achebe drawing us in,slowly,to the Ibo culture. We learn of its traditions and beliefs, religion and society. The word used are simple, yet evocative. The principal character becomes a vivid creation in the reader's mind. Though he is a beast,a brutal and merciless man,we cannot help but feel for him. Such is the genius of Achebe's writing. The third part of the novel deals with the arrival of the white settlers, with their new religion and customs. We see the affect they have on the Ibo people, and on Okonkwo. The result is disasterous. The book is a thrilling read, it's pace perfectly structured. The importance of what the book has to say about the colonisation of Africa in the 19th Century simply adds to the reasons it is a must-read. If you cannot buy this book now, find some way to get your hands on it. You will not be sorry.
