This book on creativity can be seen within the context of Singapore's current drive to transform its citizens into more a entrepreneurial, risk-taking people capable of changing the brilliant little city-state from a miniature Japan into something akin to Silicon Valley or Venice at the height of its powers. Or it can be seen just for itself. Either way, "Thinking Hats and Coloured Turbans" is enjoyable and thought provoking. A book of fewer than 150 pages, it nevertheless is packed with delightful observations of Kirpal Singh - a poet who is also a Sikh and wearer of turbans of many colors -- references to everybody from William Blake to Pablo Picasso and fascinating angles on the subject of creativity, including culture, language and interviews with people who display this most mercurial quality. Even the book's structure, with four introductions, bespeaks an approach appropriate to its subject. When you finish reading this slender volume, you will see things differently than before you opened it, and that in itself is worth the price of admission.
