I have a lot of books on this subject, but found this one particularily invaluable. It was my bible during my first directing expeience. Having trained as an actor, a lot of what he said was common sense, but he constantly reminded me how to separate my role from the actors in the cast, and the particular things that were my responsability and no one else's. There is an innate respect for the actor's creative process in his method, something I find too often lacking in other books of this kind- and sadly in directors as well- and he shows through example how to blend various talents together. I found the sections on analysis and action particularily valuable. This will lead you on to furthering your knowledge of your craft.
