Book Reviews of ThirstyBook Review: Kara W, Miller Place, NY Summary: 4 StarsThe book "Thirsty" was an excellent and spectacular book. It was greatly detailed and I could see everything that went on right in my own mind. As you read from the beginning to the middle of the book, you will become very confused. The author leaves out a lot of information of what's going on but he does tell you fifth-teen or more pages later. I greatly encourage you to read this book if you love vampires and fiction books. The one thing I didn't like about this book was the ending, as if you could call it an ending. He doesn't say what's going to happen to Chris at the end and just ends it like that. I would have given it five stars but because of the ending I gave it four stars.
Book Review: Thirsty Summary: 5 StarsThirsty is about a boy named christopher who is slowly terning into a vampire. Christopher is enlisted by a celestial being to destroy the vampire god in exchange for his life back. Suddenly everything turned up sid down and everything christopher new about the agrment is wrong.
My faverit part of thirsty is when chet the celestial being betrays Chris. chet had made a deal with the vampire god wich was chet would kill him (the god is suicidal) in exchange for unbelievable power. This makes Chris uncontrollably angery his teeth swell and he gets ready to fight. Chet was to strong and knocked Chris to the groud and began kicking Chris in the fase.
Out of all the books I've read this was far the best. If you like mysteries or vampires this would be an exhalent book for you. this book is not much of a horror but it is excellent nun the less.
Book Review: You just don't "get it". Summary: 5 StarsI thought those words would never leave my lips (or fingertips), but it does seem that many people who gave negative reviews for this book were missing the entire point, at least as I understand it. It even says in the back of the book that the author wanted to write about how someone can struggle "with the isolation of wanting to do the right thing when there was no right thing to do." The hopelessness of the novel at the end was intentional. There are not always concrete conclusions, let alone HAPPY concrete conclusions. In life, there are no definite beginnings and ends, except for birth and death of course. And that would be a long book. So if it ends on a kind of "well, what now?" note, it's all the more realistic.
The writing style I think is more a matter of aesthetic than anything. I didn't really like it the first time I read it, but it grew on me.
As for Chris, and his personality, it's actually pretty realistic. If I look objectively, I can see a lot of myself in him. Especially me a few years ago when I was his age. For the guy who said he was swept away by other people's actions and never did anything, well, he actually mentions that IN THE NARRATION. That was intentional, too. How many teenagers do you know that actually take charge of their life? I certainly didn't.
And the people who are complaining about vampires being a fact of life, come on man, it's an allegory!
So, ok, this book isn't for everyone, I guess. But before you criticize it, make sure that you're not missing the point.
Then again, maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. In which case, just ignore me.
Book Review: A completely awesome vampire book Summary: 5 StarsSo many people say bad things about this book, but it is truly wonderful. I loved it immensely. It was beautifully written, and, personally, the simplicity of it made it complex. Teenagers beg to differ that their brains are much more complex than Chris' is--but what I believe M. T. Anderson was trying to do was get you thinking about Chris as a whole, and get to know him more. In most books, the teenagers tell you what they think and feel flat out--no beating around the bush. "Oh my god, she was so mean! I like, couldn't believe she did that," or something of the sort. But with Chris, it would have been, "What she did was perplexing." Simple and to the point. But, when you look at it deeper...what did he find perplexing about it? You have to get to know Chris...
Off of that topic, the book was basically about a fifteen year old boy who lives in a modern day community. The only difference is his community is infested with vampires.
He leads a normal life, from what you can tell--the all-together too familar "parents bickering" deal, a nosey, geeky, annoying brother, a crush, friends who turn on him. Things every teenager goes through.
Until he starts to exhibit traits of a vampire. A supposid Celestrial being from The Forces of Light appears to him, tells him his name is "Chet the Celestrial Being" and says he is turning into a vampire. He says that if Chris can help "kill" the Vampire Lord Tch'muchgar, Chet will make him human again. Chris agrees.
I don't necisarally want to give the book away. But, as you can probably tell, Chris gets betrayed by Chet. Nothing can turn him human ever again...
This book seriously made me think. I was 12 when I read it, and I re read it maybe ten times the weekend I borrowed it from my friend. I absaloutely adored (and still adore) it. It was a wonderful book, and I think everyone should read it.
It amazes me how he could place such a fantasy-thriving story in such a modern time. To me he is like Stephanie Meyer, author of the novel Twilight and the soon-coming-out sequel New Moon. In both books, fictional characters take on human form, and live in your mind as true people--even though they are fictional--vampires.
It was a wonderful book, and I would rate it more if I could. Please read it, you won't be disapointed!
I read it when I was on my craze for vampire books. I can honestly say, the four best books/series I have ever read (in order) are Twilight, The Demonata (Darren Shan), Thirsty, and the Cirque Du Freak Series (Darren Shan). I greatly enjoyed it, and I know you will too!!
Book Review: Really absorbing book. I loved the way he wrote the end page. Summary: 5 StarsI really, really loved this book. It really shows the emotions and frustration that Chris goes through as he fights to restore his humanity, only to realise that he's damned forever at the end. M.T. Anderson really captured the effect of vampires well, especially Chris' lust for blood when he cuts himself while shaving and just won't stop tasting his blood. The other vampires are portrayed really well, such as Lolli and her boyfriend (I think??) Bat, with their dark personalities but very laid back attitude that fits with several teenagers nowadays. I did find it kind of wrong when Chet imitates Lolli's screams and drove Bat into a rage.
I could write on about this book for hours, but I guess I'll end it on saying that this is a fantastic book. Read it if you like vampirism, as Thirsty is basically a very interesting but different take on vampirism and the forces of Light and Darkness. Anyway, just read this if you want a dark, epic story.
