Book Reviews of Thirteen HoursBook Review: PWP Summary: 3 Stars
Disappointed. Had the potential to be more. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were on fire! But that's all it was: A book about the characters and their kinky, sexual fantasies. Take it for what it is, but if you're looking for actual romance, look for it elsewhere :-(
Book Review: Poor porn story for you to read Summary: 1 Stars
If you want silly smut then this is the type of story for you. If you want a read that promotes the value of women and their relationships and problems in being who they really are then save your money for something better. After finishing this story I was sorry that the lift did not combust with both women in it!
Why is sex the be-all-and-end-all of a story? Perhaps because the writer can't think of anything else to write about. Imagine this fantasy: lesbians get good quality fiction to read that treats women as important people and not sexual objects.
Meghan O'Brien writes a crumby story that is little else that porn in this novel. This first part is the women trapped in the lift and the second part is a realisation of the women's sexual fantasies. O.K. they end up happy-ever-after but the reality is that we gwt to know nothing about them and their real life and the complexities of two women trying to live within a world, especially a corporate world that is still very slow to accept women as valued workers. I want something much better to read that this. Trash goes out once a week but a story like this makes trash of the troubles gay women have living in hostile environments and finding true relationships based on issues that are meaningful.
Book Review: Porn Book Summary: 1 Stars
Where is the story?? This is basically a porn book. 98% of this book is sex. I skimmed almost half of the book because there was no interest. It's only about two lesbians meeting each other and having the sex of their life--it's a pretty dirty book. There is no "romance" in there, just lust. They tell each other their fantasies and act on it...they use dirty talk...everything just revolves around sex.
I bought this book on June 15th of 2008, and after the first few chapters I decided to stop reading. Now, one year and a month later, I decided to TRY to finish it. I ended up flipping the pages and skimming.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone...unless you want to have a porn book. I didn't know a software developer (the author) can have such a dirty mind.
Book Review: Really Hot! Summary: 4 Stars
If you are looking for hot & steamy with a story, this is your book. It falls between plot-less erotica and the mundane sex scenes you find in a lot of lesbian fiction. The character development is just enough for you to get an understanding of where they are in their lives but the smokin hot sex is the draw to this book.
Book Review: Romantic and sexy - probably 4.5 stars Summary: 4 Stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love this author's way with characterization. She is really able to express and highlight the insecurities people feel in an entertaining and illuminating manner. Also, her ability to bring to life the internal worlds of Introverts provides endless insight and entertainment, and allows for the creation of characters who are unique, sympathetic, and wonderfully human. Add to that a lot of sizzling sex and tender romance and we have a winner.
I was initially worried that this book would all take place within the 13 hours Dana and Laurel spend trapped in an elevator together. Not that that's a bad conceit for a book, per se, but I usually like to get more relationship-development than that. Therefore, I was happy that that set-up was only the introduction to their relationship, one that spans the stops and starts as these two women face their fears and insecurities and trust issues and decide to go for their fantasy of a fulfilling, loving relationship. This author has a unique and talented voice that's refreshing. She seems to specialize in character-study, and I love that.
There's some very light bdsm, so if you're terribly averse, you may want to pass on this book. Everyone else should buckle up and prepare to enjoy a sweet and steamy ride.
