Book Reviews of This Lullaby

Book Review: A cynic changes course
Summary: 5 Stars

Remy has absolutely NO reason to believe in love. And if you were in her shoes, you'd certainly understand why. Her mother incessantly divorces, remarries, redivorces... She has no father figure. All she knows is that he became a one hit wonder, all because of a melody he wrote expressly for her called "This Lullaby." One of the lines says, "I will let you down," and has Remy wondering what sort of father would say such a thing.

Remy is the ultimate cynic. She goes through relationship after relationship, dumping and never getting dumped. She does not want to feel the hurt love can bring or the pain of the end of a relationship, for that matter. Her goal is to get off the hook, free of pain and any type of emotion at all. Up till now, she's been doing this successfully.

Then Remy meets Dexter, a musician just like her father. He's everything Remy loathes: messy, unorganized, and...for God's sake, A MUSICIAN. They can't possibly fall in love but Remy sees him as material for a casual summer fling. Still, Dexter wants more. His quirks make him all the more enjoyable. Even Remy's bitchiness doesn't irk me much - the girl's got her reasons for shutting all potential lovers out of the picture. But as things progress with Dexter, he opens her eyes and makes her see that taking risks is really a part of life that makes people who they become in the end - brazen or not, a life without risks is, in a word, boring. But does Remy want to take risks for love?

Read and see.

Dessen, a favorite YA author of mine, has successfully captured the mind of a cynic in a novel that is both witty and satisfyingly enjoyable. You'll come to gradually understand Remy's lack of relationship security and that although she may seem hostile, events of the past, her mother's marriages and father's absence included in the equation, have affected her. Although THIS LULLABY tackles a lighter subject than its predecessor, DREAMLAND, it is far from bubbly teenage froth. This novel will always remain a favorite for me and ring true, no matter how many times I read it. Hope it's the same way for you.

Book Review: A lovable love story
Summary: 4 Stars

The book This Lullaby is a cute story about love and happiness. The author Sarah Dessen shows love is special so you should accept it. You don't have to be in love to be happy but you have to be happy to be in love. It is important in a relationship that both sides are willing to commit to one another. If not, the relationship is not strong enough to last. Anyone who is into a young love will absolutely adore this book.
Remy has been involved with boys a lot in her life but she would never let it last longer that a summer. She knows just what to say when the relationship gets to be beyond a crush. In the past three years, she has been with more than fifty guys. She learns it all from her mother who is currently on her fifth husband. So do Remy's rules apply to Dexter or is she really in love?
This book is touching and well written. Dessen illustrates that love is hard and in order to find the right guy, you have to be with some wrong ones first. This is a truly wonderful book.

Book Review: A love all wrong
Summary: 4 Stars

How much pain can one single person go through? Well I'd say a lot, according to Remey Star. With her real dad dead since she was little, her mom getting married five times, and Remey's boyfriend troubles its hard to tell if Remey even has a life. Remey is always in charge of everything, especially when it comes to her mother's marriages. Remey barely has time for her friends, let alone her boy-band, singer, boyfriend, Dexter. Remey is not into love and thinks it's foolish, but when Dexter comes along Remey changes. Even her friends notice the "Remey change". Will Remey be able to keep Dexter, or will he become just another summer boyfriend?
This book is very interesting. There are so many things going on at once its hard to put the book down for fear that you'll miss something! This book is a book I am sure that we all have something in common with. Between bad breakups, family problems, job crises, and brother arguments there's bound to be something we've all can relate to!
The worst part of this book is how Remey is scared. Remey runs from love, for fear that she'll end up like her mother. It's hard to sit and read the book wondering if Remey will cave in and let love happen or not.
This book would be a good read for girls in their teenage years. In the book Remey is faced with everyday challenges that some of us could say we have been through. It's good to read how other people take care of some of the same situations that you are put through in life. All Remey needs to learn is that love takes a leap of faith and a happy ending is not always part of the deal.

Book Review: Absolutely Wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very skeptical about this book at first, but decided to read it anyway. I couldn't put it down, it was so great. I felt like I was there with Remy the whole time, Sarah Dessen really brings the book to life. I would definitely recommend it, you don't need to be all into romance to like the book.

Book Review: Amazing Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This Lullaby is about a girl named Remy who is having problems with guys. When she was little her dad left her, her mom, and her brother Chris. He wrote her a song called This Lullaby. Remy doesn't believe in love because her mom is going into her fifth marriage. Then she meets her one true love, Dexter. Dexter shows her how to start believing in love and that it is real.

This book is truely amazing. It shows what type of things teen girls go through at a young age when they find their first love. I recommend this book to girls that like to read about teen girls and their problems when they go through life and love. It is the best book I have ever read. I am sure you will like it too.
