Book Reviews of This LullabyBook Review: Fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
Sarah Dessen just keeps getting better and better with each novel I read by her. The characters are so gripping and wonderful that you want to find out what happens to them, but you never want the book to end. It was no different with This Lullaby.
Remy knows relationships. Each time they begin to get too serious, she gives him "the talk". And she's given that talk many times. But one day she meets Dexter, clumsy, sweet, and-not-willing-to-give-up Dexter. They soon begin to grow closer and finally they start dating. But Remy can't figure out why she doesn't feel the need to dump him. Is it possible that she's finally figuring out what love really means?
This book was impossible to put down. I just had to keep reading to find out what would happen with Remy and Dexter. What's so great about this book (and all of Sarah's books, for that matter) is that they have to do with real life. Her books are real and true, and they will leave an impression on you. If you're looking for a book about a real teenage girl's life and the happiness, heartache, sorrow, joy, and drama that goes along with it, then pick up this one. You will love it.
Book Review: Fast Delivery Summary: 5 Stars
Awesome seller. Got the book earlier than was estimated. And it was in the condition that I had ordered it in. I would definitely buy from this seller again. Thanks a bunch!!
Book Review: First score for Dessen! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first book I read written by Sarah Dessen, and I'll admit that I'm impressed. This Lullaby has a well-written plot - Remy Starr is a girl that's going off to Stanford when summer ends. She's had seemingly endless boyfriends that were all dumped. This is when Dexter comes along and completely changes her point of view. He's a musician, a first fault since Remy's father was a musician before he died of a heart attack when she was hardly three.
I loved this book to a point that I almost didn't want to go to sleep if it meant putting it down. First thing in the morning - pick it up and read. Go and get this book, because in my opinion all teenage girls will love This Lullaby...
Book Review: For a Sarah Dessen book...I was extremely disappointed... Summary: 2 Stars
I've read many of Sarah Dessen's books, but this book just could not hold my attention. Remy's attitude may have done it for me, or maybe I didn't feel like the plot picked up quickly enough.
I didn't finish the book, but I read about half way before calling it quits. It's very rare that I put down a book, much less quit reading it all together, so I was rather shocked. I didn't think that this book was anything like the rest of her books - Along for the Ride, Just Listen, Lock and Key, etc. - so maybe that's why I found myself disappointed. I'm honestly not sure.
I think that things with Remy and Dexter kind of happened too fast without much explanation, and also that a lot of what happened was extremely predictable. Overall, I just feel like Sarah Dessen left many holes in the plot, or lack there of one...but then again, maybe it's just me.
Book Review: For those who still believe this world is a nice place . . . look elsewhere Summary: 1 Stars
I realize this will be an unpopular review, but I wish someone had written one like it before I bought the book.
I could only stomach the first 100 pages, which is quite an investment and a worthy attempt to give the book a chance.
I'm not a teenager.
This book is filled with foul language--the really bad kind.
I am mostly likely out of touch with what is cool.
This book doesn't seem to represent a teen viewpoint to me. I hope this is not what teenagers are like.
The main character's educational situation is unbelievable. Remy (how do you pronounce that?) is an AP scholar (apparently through all four years of high school) who has worked full-time since the summer before her junior year, but has been a combination dipsomaniac/nymphomaniac since her sophomore year. I find that a trifle hard to believe. (What an asset she will be at Stanford University!)
What a surprise, Remy meets a guy (Dexter) on the day she is breaking up with her lousy boyfriend. Dexter and Remy end up together. It was so inevitable that it wasn't even interesting.
The characters weren't very likeable. They live in emotional squallor and chaos. And they can't communicate without cursing at each other. What a depressing story.
The back flap tells you that the author is an instructor of creative writing, and she is creative in her use of the truth. There is at least one glaring misrepresentation of it. Too bad.
