Book Reviews of This LullabyBook Review: Funny, deep, and realistic Summary: 5 Stars
I've read This Lullaby nearly three times now and it's never gotten old. Sarah Dessen is one of my favorite authors and this has got to be my favorite book of hers. This Lullaby centers around Remy Starr, newly graduated student on her way to Stanford. It is set during the summer, which Remy likes to call the "in between time" before college. She and her friends are hoping for a few months of carefree fun, but that's hardly what she gets. Remy has to deal with her romance novelist mother's erratic behavior and her numerous failed marriages, her brother's transformation from pothead to upstanding guy, and last but not least, Dexter, the persistent boy who just won't leave her alone. Dexter tries to get her to let down her guard, since Remy has been a "cold, bitter bitch" from having witnessed so many failed marriages. This Lullaby, told from Remy's perspective, can get a few laughs out of you with Remy's sarcastic and caustic wit. Her thoughts come out of the page as deep and meaningful, Dessen yet again delving into the psyche of teenagers. It is a story that is certainly believable if not relatable, since any teenager would be able to relate somehow -whether it's letting someone in or facing your last summer before college.
Book Review: GREAT BOOK! MUST READ Summary: 5 Stars
This Lullaby is a breathtaking book that deals with issues most teenagers face. It is about feeling love and finding love. The author Sarah Dessen creates interesting characters that most people could relate to. Sarah Dessen is sending a message about love, accepting it and not denying it, in the book, This Lullaby.
The book is about two characters, a girl and her mother. Remy and her mother, Barbra don't have much love in their lives. Barbra is already on her fifth husband Don. Remy just broke up with her last boyfriend and is meeting a new one, Dexter. Dexter tries to teach Remy what love truly is. Remy knows she wants to love this boy but doesn't admit it. Dexter loves Remy so much he keeps on his feet and keeps trying. In the end true love wins. But everything isn't so perfect, and that's what makes the story so believable.
Love is meaningful and important in the book, This Lullaby. If you enjoy realistic fiction this is a great book for you.
Book Review: Generally good... Summary: 4 Stars
I thought this book was generally good. Thye story flowed well, Sarah Dessen described the characters in good detail to the point where i can really imagine them, the themes of music and love really stood out to me. This book was exciting and very interesting to me. It was a real page turner. However, this was NOT my favorite Sarah Dessen book. I found Remy's attiude to ve somewhat naive, childish, and a little offensive. I didn't believe that Remy actually loved Dexter-I felt more that she was using him. The conection was never that strong between them. But overall, it was a generally good book. I reccomend it for anyone over the age of 13 because there is some bad language in it, and other mature issues that are too much for younger kids. If you want a fast paced rock and roll high school love story this is the book for you!:)
Book Review: Great Read Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book a year or so ago and it is one of my favorite books of all time. Sarah Dessen did a great job writing this novel, it's an interesting read that I can read over and over. You get to know the characters and will be rooting for Remy and Dexter throughout the book.
