Book Review: 3 Cups of Tea

Three Cups of Tea is a great book about a man named Greg Mortenson, and his struggles in building a school for a poor village in Pakistan called Korphe. Greg's mission is to build schools for poor communities throughout Pakistan and Afghanistan. The book begins with Greg climbing K2, the world's second highest mountain, in honor of his sister who passed away. Greg was not able to reach the summit, but on his way down, he was separated from his guide and wandered into a small town called Korphe. Greg was amazed on how sincere the people of the village were because of their hospitality. Greg noticed that the children in the town had nowhere to study but in the dirt. When Greg saw this, he promised the leader of the village, Haji Ali, that he would raise money for the school and come back to Pakistan and build it. Greg fulfilled his promise and loved helping the children so much that he started a business, with financial help, called the Central Asia Institute. The CAI builds schools all over Pakistan and Afghanistan for girls poor villages. Greg also has a fundraiser called Pennies for Peace. Pennies for Peace is where kids from the United States donate spare change for the Central Asia Institute, and for the girls of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
This is a great book because it shows how people want to help the situation in the Middle East and terrorism through education.
