Book Reviews of Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time

Book Review: A must read!
Summary: 5 Stars

To understand the real world of the rural people of Pakistan and Afghanistan you must read this book. You will be inspired by the sacrifice and determination of one man (now a foundation) to make a difference. You may even be inspired to help him continue this important mission that shows a more effective way to fight terrorism than missiles and bombs. I was.

Book Review: Just finished 'Three Cups of Tea' and very much enjoyed it
Summary: 4 Stars

I just finished 'Three Cups of Tea' and very much enjoyed it. Having lived in Central Asia I found the discussion about the Muslim culture very interesting. The most interesting part of the book is the last third, when Mortenson is working in Afghanistan after 9/11. During these times of xenophobia and mis-guided fear, we need more books about Central Asia and Islam.

Book Review: Definitely worth reading
Summary: 5 Stars

I picked up this book because I am a climber and outdoor person and came away from the reading experience with a much greater knowledge of Pakistan's people and culture as well as a renewed sense of the necessity for community and compassion in all aspects of life. Because the story is so powerful the writing style, to me, was all but insignificant. What is more important than the way the story is told is the message of true peace through compassionate action and real engagement with people. If you want to make a real difference in this world, read this book to see how Greg is doing it on a daily basis.

Book Review: One of the best books I've ever read....
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the most inspiring and intriguing books I have ever read. I am buying copies for my friends to read because I feel like it is such an important book to read especially given our political climate and American's tedious spot on the world stage. I would recommend this book to anyone and I do hope that someday Greg Mortensen receives the Nobel Peace Prize for his amazing work in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Book Review: The real and lasting solution to terrorism
Summary: 5 Stars

Greg Mortenson's work of building schools in impoverished rural Pakistan and Afghanistan is the real answer to the war in terror. Young boys join extremist madrassas not because they dream of being suicide bombers, but because in many rural areas of Central Asia, this is the only place they can get an education. The jihadist indoctrination comes later.

I read Three Cups of Tea in two days, then re-read most of it on the third day, mesmerized! Despite our limited funds, I am sending a small check to the Central Asia Institute to continue its work, and urge you to first read the book then consider doing the same!
