Ties that Bind, Ties that break
This book is about a young girl names Ailin. This book takes place in China. Ailin doesn't want to have her feet bound. At the time when Ailin was living in girls always had their feet bound. Because Ailin doesn't want to have her feet bound her fiancés mother breaks off their engagement. Since Ailin's feet are not bound she is seen unfit to be an upper-class wife. At that time women were still supposed to stay at home and have kids. Since she is not engaged, and will probably never get married her father sends her to an all girls public school. Her Uncle opposes her father's decision, and when her father dies he refuses to continue her education. Since Ailin is not allowed back into her family's house, she takes a job in a family of American missionaries. Ailin takes care of two children, Billy and Grace. Suddenly she finds her life has changed. She lives the western way, and the family she works for thinks some of her ways are heathen. After two years of working for that family, they decide to move back to America. They ask Ailin if she would like to come live with them. She accepts the offer, and after a long boat trip she arrives in America. Eventually she marries someone she met on the boat. This was a really good book, I hope you like it!
