I bought this book as a gift. It is a cute story and the child it was for loves to have it read to him.
Book Review: give me a break! Summary: 5 Stars
just wanted to respond to the review trashing this book because it's not "culturally accurate." Come on - we're talking about a cute book with rhymes that little ones love. If you hold all toddler books to your standards, there wouldn't be many left to read. No Mother Goose Nursery Rymes or Brothers Grim Fairy Tales??? How sad!! Would you throw out the wonderful "Little Critter" books by Mercer Mayer because of outdated stereotypes of moms and dads? So what if you rarely see mom without her trusty apron on ... lighten up!!
and p.s. Instead of throwing this book out, I'm sure the local library would appreciate it, or a family whose friends' do not have the means to send books they can throw away!!
Book Review: terrible story Summary: 1 Stars
I took this book out of the library because I had read it is a children's classic. Thank goodness I read it first before I read it to my 3 year old son. The story is just awful focusing on the importance of the firstborn son and discrediting the younger boy. I was appalled that such a revered book included both children having near drowning episodes and CPR! I would not recommend this to anyone as I think the moral of the story is so negative and debilitating to children.
Book Review: this book is great! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this book for a 6 year old boy and he absolutely loves the story! The illustrations are great and he finds the tongue-twisting name hilarious.
