Book Review: Time: 1968 -- a personal perspective

I purchased Time: 1968 with high hopes and great expectations of a book that would summarise a dramatic and eventful year in US history. The book received, although interesting, was ultimately disappointing.
Time 1968 covers the American experience throughout 365 turbulent days.
It opens with a gallery of photos -- some spolied by being overlaid with text and having their surfaces buried beneath other images. The book offers 10 pages on the Tet Offensive, but the imagery is clearly subordinate to the text, and the images fail to convey the drama and horror of an historic turning point in this dreadful conflict
The book offers sections on psychedelic styles (which belong more to 1967), films (The Graduate -- a film released in 1967!) and just 2 pages on the memorable Mexico Olympics.
The book offers excellent coverage of the siege of Khe Sanh (Vietnam), the Musical Hair, the 1968 elections, Apollo 8 and TV's fare during a year of sweeping social change.
The books omissions, from sections dealing with Medicine or Science, to individual photos from Tet (John Olson's harrowing tableau of US soldiers atop a tank) or Mexico (US athletes winning races) are notable.
The texts are competent -- but we deserved more.
