Book Reviews of Time for BedBook Review: Beautiful illustrations Summary: 3 Stars
My 19 month old daughter received this book about a week ago. She likes to look at the pictures of the animals and listen to the text. However, we skip the page with the snake as it seems a bit scary and inappropriate for a bedtime book. And the last page shows a picture of a little girl sleeping and my daughter cries when she sees it. After many tears, my husband and I have tried to explain that the little girl is just resting and getting some sleep for the night. As she has not been exposed to violent movies or TV shows or anything depicting death, we don't know why she's so upset by this picture. Even after our explanations she whimpers when she sees the picture.
Book Review: Beautiful illustrations, average text Summary: 4 Stars
The text is the typical rhyming couplet poetry that fills so many board books for the 1-3 crowd. It's not drivel, but it isn't especially enjoyable either. It's also a bit disappointing when one reads some of Fox's other books, like Harriet, You'll Drive Me Wild (written for a slightly older audience) and realises how capable she is.The illustrations, however, are phenomenal. There are beautiful, detailed images of various parent/child pairs. Fish and bees aren't known for being loving, involved parents, but most 2 and 3 year olds won't catch on to that. The still closed eyes of the baby squirrel and the downy feathers of the baby goose are very true to life. In terms of quality, it's a very well put together board book that should survive many readings and a fair bit of chewing and tossing.
Book Review: Beautiful illustrations, great bedtime story Summary: 5 Stars
The illustrations in this book are just gorgeous. Read it in a soft "bedtime" voice and it will lull a child to sleep. Wish it was a little longer.
Book Review: Best Bedtime Book Ever Summary: 5 Stars
This gentle rhyming book is the perfect bedtime book. I buy it to give to all my new mother and grandmother friends. The illustrations are beautiful and peaceful. In the book, the animal moms are talking with their babies about it being time for bed. When I close my eyes, I can hear my son reading it to his baby boys. If you want to share the love and joy of books, buy this...the best bedtime book ever!
Book Review: Best Bedtime Story Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
We checked this book out from the library and then we just had to have it. My daughter (1 year old) loves this book so much she kisses every page and brings it to us to read all the time. The illustrations of the mama and baby animals are beautiful. The language is soothing and has a nice rhythm and rhyme to it perfect for little kids. Each page has one sentence so their attention doesn't wander. I'm so glad it came in a board book so my daughter can look at it without supervision. I highly recommend this book!
