Book Reviews of TimelineBook Review: A Great Concept Summary: 4 Stars
The story line had a lot of potential, however, I think Crichton had other ideas in mind when he wrote this book. Possibly a movie. Toward the end, some of the battle scenes were a little too descriptive, and very, very long. It seemed like the last part of the book was a never ending battle and the characters being hero's time and time again. It's as intriguing as his other books, however, it lacks that "Classic Crichton" ending.I enjoyed the book immensely despite the critiques of the ending above. It has a great story line and a huge potential to be a great book. The characters have the "Classic Crichton" way about them and that mysterious nature. Puzzles from the beginning keep you reading.
Book Review: A Great Novel Summary: 5 Stars
Timeline is an absolutely incredible book that kept me turning the pages constantly. I would recommend people who like swashbucklers and action/fiction novels to read this book. It is a face-paced, action-packed book.Timeline is about a group of scientists/archeologist that have been research a medieval campsite in France. The main professor leaves on a business trip, and does not return when he said he was going to. While searching around in an old ruin, they make an astonishing discovery and are called to come to New Mexico and visit a technological company that pretty much dropped out of the media. Now they are given the chance to visit the past through advances in quantum physics. As they enter the past they find they will have to fight for their lives to come back alive. I found this an overall amazing, fun, and exciting book to read. It contains some graphic pictures (for those who find that offensive). There are a lot of quantum physics references, but if you read them closely and go over them once or twice, you will be able to grasp the concept. Michael Crichton delivers again in this great book.
Book Review: A Great Starting Point for a Series Summary: 4 Stars
I agree with most reviewers that character development was sorely missing from the book. And, yes, it does read like a screen play more than a novel. Yet I still found myself fully enjoying the read and hoping that this is just a "jumping off" point for a series of books.
Book Review: A MUST READ!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Michael Crichton has taken us from a tropical island inhabited by genetically cloned dinosaurs, from the depths of an African jungle swarming with killer gorillas, to a wild ride back in time to the age of kings, knights, and the bubonic plague. In his thrilling novel "Timeline," Crichton, a true master of fiction, introduces the reader to a very likeable group of "medieval-ly" enthusiastic college students from Yale who embark on a journey, thanks to a New Mexico based technology company that has discovered a way to transport people to parallel universes (all of which existing at a different points in history), to 14th-century France, a very different and deadly period of time, during the Hundred Years War to find their college professor who has traveled back to A.D. 1357 without them. This small group of time travelers must get accustomed to living the lives of "Middle-Age" Europeans they had been studying in college so they can rescue their teacher and return to the modern age. Will their knowledge of the customs and conditions of feudal France enable them to survive and rescue their mentor? Or, will the highly unstable, highly dangerous days of broadswords, jousting, disease, and deceit prove too much for the 21st-century scholars? Only TIME will tell.
Book Review: A MUST! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book, sometimes it brings me to believe that it's possible to exist a time machine and I can travel around the time endless. Have you ever thought about this? Back to the past and see important moments of our civilization! This is something that really excite me.
