Book Reviews of TimelineBook Review: A Page Turner Summary: 5 Stars
Crichton has outdone himself this time! His through research makes this action packed story come to life. I read it in 2 days straight, I couldn't put the book down! Everyone should read "Timeline". I have not read a book this intriguing and well written in a long time.
Book Review: A Powerful Blend of Fact and Fiction Summary: 5 Stars
I'll admit--I was skeptical before I read this book. I had heard of Michael Crichton's writing prowess but movies like Jurassic Park and the Lost World dissuaded me from EVER reading those two. However, a friend insisted that I read Timeline, and I'm glad I did. The book is a work of genius, a masterpiece. Crichton artfully blends fact seen in the theories behind quantam physics and the actual historical events of the Middle Ages with a compelling fiction of parallel universes and the possibility to believe in time travel. Added is a little spice of romance, all that is necessary to entirely tie the book together. The characters are not meant to be entirely deep, emotional people, but their internal turmoil and courage under fire characterizes them more deeply than long-winded paragraphs of emotion. I don't know how anyone thinks of combining Medieval history with quantam physics, but somehow Crichton did, and the story seems all the more real with the knowledge that it's entirely original. This book will be enjoyed in some aspect by anyone who has dreamed to go beyond the constraints of time and really experience the past, anyone that believes in chivalry, anyone to whom quantam physics is not a theory but a reality, and anyone who loves a good story.
Book Review: A Science Fiction Time Travel Historical Thriller Summary: 4 Stars
My title says just how I would characterize this book. I really enjoy historical novels. This one was combined with the urgency of a thriller, and a plausible-enough senario for time travel that the reader can accept. This book was a bit different from Chrichton's other books, but still an excellent page-turner. If you have enjoyed Crichton's other books, or if you enjoy historical novels, you should enjoy this one too.
Book Review: A Superb Read! Summary: 4 Stars
This isn't the best book in the world. It is however an energetic, enthralling one. It took me no time, practically, to read it.There is more to the novel than the speed. Crichton, as I saw it, was trying to show different aspects of our civilization through the characters and their actions. He represented how many people have kind of lost touch with our surroundings, how we can't really defend ourselves. The middle ages were a hard time to be living in, more difficult than ours in many ways. Crichton, I think, succeeded in presenting that to the reader. He didn't exaggerate, he didn't invent wild "facts." Most all historical mistakes aren't anything to complain too much about. They were made for literary reasons, to help the pace of the story. And, of course, Crichton displayed the dangers of technology; it's become kind of a habit with him.
