Book Review: 'Liars and Cheats'

Marissa Kincaid is afraid of men; not men themselves but the havoc that they can cause through unfaithfulness. Her father left her mother for another woman - twice - and Marissa's own dating history is littered with men who have cheated on her. Along with her friends Amy and Candi Marissa sets up a website which dishes the dirt on men who cheat, and she supplies her own dating history as examples. Marissa includes Trent Jackson, her youthful love who cheated on her when she was aged 13, not realising that it's going to start a war.
Trent is also working on publicising a website and when he finds out he's been named and shamed by Marissa he sets up his own website which reports women who lie. Their mini-war of the websites spills over into a radio show until eventually they are challenged, by the radio show, to live together for five days and to see if they still hate each other by the end.
Trent and Marissa find, of course, that living with someone else means you learn a lot more about them and begin to understand them. Trent's objectives in the Radio competition are rather different than Marissa's and he spends time trying to wear her down into having a relationship with him, although that will mean she forfeits the rather valuable prize. But Marissa's fear of cheating men is still significant, especially when she hears some more news from her family. Is Trent really worth giving up a million dollar prize?
This is a lighthearted book with some amusing characters and funny situations. There's little actual depth to it, even with regard to the women are liars/men are cheats concepts. But it's a reasonable read for those who enjoy reading about feisty women and attractive, successful men.
