Book Reviews of Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized BiographyBook Review: should be read by everyone Summary: 5 StarsI'm not particularly interested in Tom Cruise. I bought the book because people are too frightened to publish it in Australia (where I live), or to sell it. That was enough reason for me to go out and buy it. Has it been worth it? ABSOLUTELY. This book should be compulsory reading. The thing I find the most frightening (and this applies to many belief systems - not just Tom Cruise's one) is that anyone who doesn't belong, is not regarded as worthy. The inability to recognise another person's humanity is not only disastrous - it's insane. Scary stuff.
Book Review: Get your e-meter ready Summary: 4 Stars"Tom Cruise, An Unauthorized Biography" by Andrew Morton:
I don't see any reason to give a synopsis of this book as I think everyone knows what this one is about. This book was actually pretty interesting though I don't think you will be left with a much different impression of Tom Cruise as the one you had prior to reading this. The author gives a very detailed chronological telling of Tom's life to date including insight into how and when he started acting, his early relationships and his indoctrination into the insidious cult that is Scientology. I am leaving this brief because discussion of any details would be spoilers.
The Good: The book was well written and very interesting giving a detailed telling of Tom Cruise's life. Some information on Scientology is presented by the author which was also interesting.
The Bad: Nothing memorable.
Overall: If you have even a little bit of interest in Tom Cruise, if you love him, if you hate him, if you aren't sure what to think about him, give this a read.
Book Review: Detailed insight Summary: 4 StarsThis book is full of insightful details, sometimes too many. I found some of the details a bit tedious, but overall, the book does it's job of presenting the growth / life couse of Tom Cruise. The book is a quick, easy read, but will scare the crap out of you if you aren't familar with Scientology, which I wasn't. I found the details of Mr. Cruise's rise and involvement with this "organization" (hardly a religion in my opinion) amazing- but not in a good way. Merchant of chaos? Look in the mirror, Tom Cruise! If you want to know about this particular celebrity or the Scientology system of belief this is a very informative source.
Book Review: sinfully delicious Summary: 4 StarsI'm about half way through the book and definitely enjoying it. You have to take it with a grain of salt since it's unauthorized, but even if it's only 75% true, there is some fascinating stuff in it!
Book Review: On the money Summary: 4 StarsI ordered this book early as Australian publishers don't seem to be brave enough to stock this one, a testament to the influence Tom and the church seem to have.
To talk about Tom Cruise is to talk about the church and from what I have previously heard about Scientology I knew that the news was not going to be good in this book. I came away with the impression of a controlling and fanatical organization that may ultimately consume Tom and his children.
That said, I thought that Andrew was quite fair and gave a balanced view, after reading it I (and I suspect Mr Morton) have a great respect for the adversities that Tom overcame in his life and a different view about Nicole and the part she played in the downfall of their marriage.
I'm glad i'm not Tom, despite all the money, houses, servants, cars and 'friends'. A cracking read with some excellent pictures I've not seen before.
