Book Review: Corporate Counsel Magazine Summary: 5 StarsFrom Corporate Counsel magazine...Tony Soprano on Management is a fun read. Many business how-tos come spiked with New Age blather and silly diagrams breathlessly illustrating glorious new paradigms. Schneider avoids such nonsense. Instead, he uses vignettes from the series to make his points... Schneider notes that like most effective CEOs, Soprano works with a close, handpicked executive team... they have been chosen by Tony because their abilities complement one another... Schneider shows how Soprano carefully doles out perks to keep his team performing. http://www.law.com/jsp/cc/pubarticleCC.jsp?id=1080681918901 - - (...)
Book Review: My Business Bible Summary: 5 StarsI've been managing people for years. And I have not found a book that says it like it is. Really tells you what to do, how to excel, what works and what doesn't. This book is the first one, and I've been following it like a bible. I had a negotiation recently. Consulted the book. Did better than ever before. I had to hire someone. Fire someone. Both went better. The good, the bad, the long term, the shor term, this is the one book that will help you steer through management and do better than you would without it.
Book Review: Remarkable General Business Book Summary: 5 StarsThis is a remarkable book. It's smart, fun to read, very up to date in terms of case studies, methods and examples from the corporate and not-for-profit worlds, both in the US and abroad.I'm an old manager, stuffy, jaded. Someone recommended this book, and I didn't think I'd like it. I don't like many biz books. But this one is a winner. It's not just for managers -- entrepreneurs, freelancers, board members, this book is for you. My favorite chapter is on vision. Another favorite deals with time-saving, decision making and delegating. I try and try to get better at those things, and usually books don't help. But so far, this one is.
Book Review: Trite and funny Summary: 1 StarsI was unpleasantly surpised to be disappointed in this book. I'd read the author's hype and expected that it would be on target. To read the 'reviews' on this site, you'd expect to be promoted instantly after reading this tomb--literally. Instead I found it to be superficial, trite, and unintentionally funny. Schneider posts himself as an expert in management, but gives basic instructions that are decades outdated. That isn't the way I see Tony! He is up to date and wrestles with the issues of being a good manager on a daily basis. Save your money and spend it on 'Execution', or Jack Welch.
