Book Reviews of Tony Soprano on Management: Leadership Lessons Inspired by America's Favorite Mobster

Book Review: This wise book gives new meaning to the term "wise guy."
Summary: 5 Stars

What a refreshing book! "TONY SOPRANO ON MANAGEMENT" gives new meaning to the term "wise guys." For it is truly a wise book. It cuts through the you-know-what, and comes through with some smart lessons for anyone in the workplace who wants to do better. It's clear and to the point, totally free from the jargon that usually characterizes management guides.
The book's lessons range from quick tips -- "Practice saying no," "make friends of your co-workers" --- to profound, even philosophical thought. And the book is well researched. There are ample examples from proven leaders in real-life business -- the Tony Soprano lessons are only half the story. I found it fun to read the incidents and anecdotes taken from the show. They made the business lessons easier to grasp, and easier to remember. You'll love this book if you're a SOPRANO fan, and even if you're not, you'll be glad you read it. And so will your co-workers. Don't be surprised when they ask "Who made you so smart all of a sudden?"

Book Review: I take it with me to work each day
Summary: 5 Stars

Having read the book, and read the "Let's rather talk about Italian-American firefighters" review (if you can call such irrelevant comment a review,) I feel compelled to write my own review, something I've never done before: This is a book you can really use. It's short, succinct, wise, witty, hip, helpful and altogether terrific. Not being a manager (yet) myself, I found the part about managing up particularly useful. And no matter what part of the totem pole you occupy, you will surely find all the stuff about personal relationships in the workplace tremendously applicable. Come on Italian-Americans, there's a stereotype out there - get over it.

Book Review: Best Leadeship Book of the Decade
Summary: 5 Stars

If you read one leadership or management book, read this one. If you read two, read it twice. Say what you want about the show, this book will make you a better boss, or worker, make your company better, make you happier and probably make you money. Sound okay?

Book Review: Who Is the Stereotypical Good Boss?
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd like to suggest that we let HBO and the writers of the Sopranos deal with the stereotypes on the show (if there are any. I'm Italian-American and love the show). This book, however, is about leadership, not Italian-Americans. It paints a vivid picture of what makes (and doesn't make) a great leader. And I find it a very valuable addition to my business library.

It might even take the cake!

Book Review: Sons of Italy, Unite!!
Summary: 1 Stars

It is time to stop these stereotypes of Italian-Americans!
This book relies heavily on the same images as 'that show'---big-bellied guys from Jersey who whack people who disagree with them. I don't know how anyone can read this stuff and take it seriously. There are so many lessons to be learned from great Italian-Americans who are law-abiding! What about many the firefighters and cops in the WTC? We should be holding them up as examples of heros, not this guy!
