Book Review: Good part and bad parts - 2 stars and a ½

Since falling down a flight of stairs 10 years ago, Greg has had paranormal abilities (he sees pas events when touching a person or an object) and understandingly developed an abhorrence for touch. Greg is therefore very selective of where he goes and who he hangs out with... actually, besides his 2 employees, his only friend is Artie - Detective Arthur McAdams.
Artie and Greg have known each other for 4 years. They've had this "thing" brewing between them but both of them hold back - mostly because Greg is still just scared enough to not give the go-ahead, even though his guilty pleasure is to sit in Artie's chair when he's alone, to feel Artie all around him. As for Artie's guilty pleasure... well, let's just say that it's much cruder and much more to the point! (smile) Anyway, it takes a serial killer targeting Greg to bring things to a boil between them.
The good part of the story was the attachment between Artie & Greg. They're devoted to each other and Greg's abilities also add a layer to their relationship that was a very nice touch.
Another plus is Duke, Artie's cat; that feline has got quite the personality...!
Now, for the griping... First off, the serial killer thing is not credible at all. The killer's actions and reasons are not believable and the whole thing could have been settled in less than 3 chapters if not for all the dithering and fainting and plain bad police work. How could a cop be unprofessional enough to get so personal over a case, he hampers it? And where could there be a PD negligent to the point of sending its pregnant female detectives into dangerous situations?!
The writing is also lacking. You know those little punch phrases, those of about 4-5 words with no verbs that an author uses once in a while to make a point? The author uses one of those at least once per paragraph, which made the writing short-breathed and twitchy. Also, towards the end of the book, it's as if Artie's words bank decreases exponentially; he uses the word "s***" at least once a page either as a verb, a noun, an adjective or just as a plain expression of disgust...
My advice: buy the eBook instead at the Torquere Press website, it's half the price.
