This is a quirky and fascinating memoir by one of the greatest senators and politicians of our time. He regales us with tales of inside his famous family and is never one to spare himself when talking about wrong choices or behavior problems, but alas completely - out of adoration and loyalty - whitewashes his father's pro-fascist views, and basically where the old man got all his money. That's perhaps understandable but makes one question how a writer can insert "I am repeating what I thought as a young child" without interrupting the narrative. Teddy Kennedy's personal life was usually a mess, although not in the past 2 decades with his new wife and their conjoined families at his side. But his public persona and dedication to the morally correct political decisions makes for an excellent and quick read. There are people who will read this and who are young enough to have not known all the stories about this man's parents and indeed most of his siblings. He states that he was taught to ignore gossip in all forms, and so he does, perhaps to a fault especially when it comes to his father, but the reader gets a very good picture of this man's thinking, actions, dedication and what is by anyone's standards considered to be a long and effective and successful life. I say read it and enjoy! We will miss him terribly, especially while this health care reform issue is alove - we miss his helping to get through what would have been the crowning glory of his Senatorship.
