Book Reviews of True Evil: A NovelBook Review: Greg does it again! Summary: 5 Stars
A great yarn populated with fascinating people, and sprikled with genuinely profound paragraphs, which one might like to mark and read again.
It seems to me that Greg's place in American Literature is secure. He likes Falkner, and I'd bet Falkner would like him.
Book Review: Heck of a ride Summary: 5 Stars
As is usual with a Greg Iles novel, this one kept me reading, reading - so hard to put down! I thought it was a bit slow to start, grabbed me at about page 100, and was going to give it 4 stars because of that, but I loved the many references to other Greg Iles books and characters that have also taken place in Natchez, and I especially loved the nod to Nevada Barr. Well done and deserving of the 5 stars.
Book Review: How Could ANYONE Rate This Less Than Five Stars? Summary: 5 Stars
I had never read a Greg Iles book, but own several of them thanks to a friend who owns a used bookshop who loaded me up recently with a variety of great mystery and thriller novels. Among them were a few Greg Iles novels, including True Evil. After seeing many glowing reviews I decided to jump in in spite of the fact that I'm not usually a fan of lengthy novels.
The fact is I couldn't get enough of this story. Enough have written about the characters and the plot to give you more than enough information about this story, but I had to put my own feelings into words as this novel flat-out blew me away. What I enjoyed about it most was that it read like a movie and never left you needing to back track if you had to put the novel down for a day or two to tend to everyday life. Everything remains fresh in your mind, as Greg Iles clearly paints the landscape for you and doesn't confuse you with too many twists or characters. I loved that no matter how often I tried to predict the next move, murder, twist, etc., I was ALWAYS wrong.
This is a great book for fans of Harlan Coben, John Sanford, and the like. One of the best page turners I've read in a long while, and I read a lot of books! Highly recommended!
Book Review: How does Iles do it... Each book is different, each one great Summary: 5 Stars
If I were a writer, I would want to be Greg Iles. Each book he's written is totally different. He doesn't rehash characters, the writing is dense, the characters are fully constructed, the stories twist and turn.
True Evil was a potent read. I could not put it down, even sitting in the car at one of my kids softball games and reading it, while missing things going on in the field. I never do that kind of stuff.
Many of the characters are truly sick and despicable, while the others have their complement of real human frailties. This is no Cussler book where there are super action heroes that never die. Nope, this is a book about real people, who are falling apart. Even the psycho antagonist is weirder than most novelists can dream up.
You can get lost in this book. Highly recommended to anyone who likes mysteries and great writing.
Book Review: Huh? Summary: 3 Stars
If Chris is worth $2M and it costs $2M to kill him, then why bother? Especially since he would go for the divorce.
OK book. Not wonderful.
