Book Reviews of True Evil: A NovelBook Review: Not as satisfying as it should be Summary: 3 Stars
This book started out like gangbusters and immediately captured my attention and imagination. Then it started to go on a little too long. Then my incredulity started being strained. There was no motive for the contract on Dr. Shepard. I kept reading to find out why his wife wanted him killed but that was never satisfactorily explained to me.
Also, I never like children in danger and here we have not one, but 2 children in the hands of evil people.
I agree with the reviewer who thought about 50 pages could have been cut without harming the story at all. Indeed, it would have helped.
Book Review: One of his best yet Summary: 4 Stars
This will keep you on the edge of your seat. He is simply amazing when it comes to creating completely insane villains and over-the-top plots. I couldn't put this story down. First -- the lead character, Alexandra Morse, is a strong, fearless, female heroine. The doctor that she is helping is warm and trusting, which makes you love him from the start. The sneaky lawyer is another well developed character (thanks to the details that Iles is so good at including) and his actions described by Iles make you despise him immediately. The true villain is insane and simply doesn't realize it (like many of Iles' villains--thinking his actions are at a higher level than morality and humanity), making him all the more believable. Warning to animal lovers, there are some disturbing scenes that are upsetting regarding animals. I found myself "fast forwarding" through those parts because I couldn't handle it.
I read this in a day -- that is how good it is.
It was also my first kindle read and I'm now officially hooked on the kindle.
Book Review: RE: very interesting !!!!!!! Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first novel I've ever read of this kind , this one held my interest from the begining right down to the climatic ending . I dont usually read medical mysteries but i have to read all of the others . Hopefully all are just as fascinating or better . I truly enjoyed this book . I recommend it to everyone , my sister is reading it now . Keep up the good works .
Book Review: Strong writing but incredibly racist Summary: 3 Stars
This is my second Greg Iles book and I enjoyed the writing in both immensely. However, as engaging as they were, both were so rife with racial epithets and offensive stereotypes directed at African Americans that they were sometimes difficult to get through. I understand that Iles is trying to convey the sentiment of whites in the South and that racist views are often an element of said sentiment. But the racism was so glaring and so gratuitous that I cant help but think that Iles was really conveying his own hate-filled beliefs. If this is how most Mississipians think, its a sad testimony.
Book Review: Terrifying and terrific Summary: 5 Stars
Greg Iles can write about the deep South or Nazi Germany with the same exactitude. The suspense is wonderful, scary but begging you to keep going.
He understands his territory,he builds his characters until you would know them if you met them.
When I see his name,I click on "add to cart" and then wait for the box.
