Book Reviews of Tuck Everlasting

Book Review: Death and Life
Summary: 4 Stars

The wonderful and enchanted book Tuck Everlasting has romance, action, and a great mystery behind it. This book teaches the qualities of life and death. The question behind this book, is would you want to live forever? If so, would you think it's a gift or a curse? This wonderful book starts off with 10 year old girl Winnie Foster who lives in a town called Treegap. Winnie Foster meets a mistereous family called the Tucks. The Tucks have an unknown secret that Winnie Foster discovers. Now that Winnie knows the secret, it is even harder for the Tucks to hide. I think Natalie Babbit did a great job writing this book. I would recomend this book to any young reader and even any adult.

Book Review: Delightful Tale
Summary: 4 Stars

My friend chose Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt for our book club read this month. Is it strange that I've never read the book or watched the movie before? I've seen it in the Scholastic book orders over the years and have always planned to buy it someday.

I read the first two chapters out loud to the kids while we were in the car. The other night when we were driving somewhere, I asked if they wanted me to read it out loud and they all emphatically said "no". So, I read it by myself this weekend.

I really enjoyed the story of Winnie Foster, an eleven-year old girl, who runs away into the woods near her home only to discover a handsome young man drinking from a hidden spring. Suddenly, she is a kidnap victim and the family that has taken her shares their curious secret--one of eternal life.

The story brings up several interesting points about life and living and I think it will be fun to discuss it with my book club. Here are just a few questions to think about: Would you want to live forever? If you had to live forever, which age would you want to be? (There is a part of me that would love to have my 20 month old baby to drink from that spring. She's at the cutest stage right now and growing up much too quickly.) Did the Tucks take advantage of the gift/curse? Why didn't Miles give his wife water from the spring?

This well written book is delightful and the characters are charming.

Book Review: Descriptive Writing at its best
Summary: 5 Stars

Tuck Everlasting is perhaps one of the most magical, enchanting books ever written, and is descriptive writing at its best. As a Language Arts/Reading teacher, I've used several passages from this book to model descriptive writing to my students..."endless tangled vines; and here and there a fallen log, half rotted but soft with patches of sweet-velvet moss" (p. 24). As with most chapter books, there are no illustrations, therefore, as a reader you must rely on the words themselves to hook you, to help you visualize, keeping you reading. I highly recommend this book not only for students, librarians, and teachers, but also for educators to use when preparing students for standardized tests.

Book Review: Do you like mystical and mysterious woods?
Summary: 5 Stars

Do you like mystical and mysterious woods? Then this is your book. I really enjoyed reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. The story is set in magical and mystical forest. Something exciting happens in Treegap and you never want to stop reading.

I do not recommend this book for kids under the age of 10, unless they have a large vocabulary and appreciation for descriptive language. The reader should be able to appreciate the language Natalie Babbitt uses. The imagery and descriptive writing are very complex. A kid reading this novel needs to know how to identify the author's use of similes, metaphors, foreshadow, and personification so that they can understand what she is trying to communicate. There are also many large words that you would need to stop and think about. If you don't know the word then it would be harder for a younger reader to understand the meaning, particularly those words that have multiple meanings.

I also enjoyed the book's main characters. Babbitt creates characters that are very serious and heart warming. The Tucks are serious about their problem and they really want to fix it but there is no way they can. When Mae is worried, her music box makes her feel warm and soothed inside. When they try to befriend Winnie she thinks their voices are kind and friendly.

I have told you what I like about the wonderful book Tuck Everlasting and that I would not recommend this book for children under the age of 10. But if you like mystical and mysterious woods and have a large vocabulary then this is your book for only $7.00.

Enjoy!!!

Book Review: Don't Read Tuck Everlasting ( the awsome review)!!!
Summary: 2 Stars

Tuck Everlasting
By Natalie Babbitt
In my opinion you should NOT read "Tuck Everlasting" By Natalie Babbitt. The following paragraphs will explain my feelings about this book.
I didn't like this book because it was all mystical, sad and scary. Like when children DIE, and the Tuck's find out they're once again alone. It didn't make me laugh once through the book, nor did I get a good, warm feeling. I felt as if I was trapped listening to people whisper of times full of worry, fear, death and sorrow.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather read a fun, exciding book, than a mystical, dreary story. Plus, I LOVE to make text-to-self connections. With this book I cannot because of the character's magical experience, and crazy violence.
How about I describe the feeling I had while reading the book to you. Your blowing beautiful bubbles, then POP! They all pop and get in your eyes.

I personally don't like stinging eyes, or sad books; that's why I don't think you should read "Tuck Everlasting"!
