Book Review: Good info
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is an easy read yet know new information. Everything that is written in the book you could possibly google. Also I found that the author is very redundant often saying the same thing over again. The book is not worth the money but is informative.

Book Review: I live by this book
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book a few years back and I still use the information in it. I also purchased it for several of my friends, the information in this book is very simple and oh so valuable.

Book Review: Honestly Works
Summary: 4 Stars

I read Cathy Howse's book about 5 years ago and began following her regimen. My hair health and length immediately improved, although my hair wasn't damaged that badly and was already shoulder length. Most of her tips were things I was either aware of or already doing, for example moisturizing and conditioning. I think her emphasis on moisturizing EVERY day without exception and deep conditioning with heat EVERY single time you wash your hair are the important and priceless pointers. I bought both moisturizers she sells however once I ran out, I experienced the WORST breakage of my life. This may have been due to the braids I had put in, the fact that I moved and switched stylists, or my internal health - but whatever it was I was not pleased. Recently my cousin asked me about her regimen, remembering how extremely long my hair had grown while following it. I thought to myself "why did I ever stop using her products and following her regime?" and bought her dew and creme moisturizers. Immediately I noticed a vast improvement in my hair. I must say her moisturizers do EXACTLY what she claims they do - the conditioners I haven't tried. I totally agree with moisturizing every day, washing hair at least 1X per week, and deep conditiong everytime you wash your hair. I also began to air dry my hair whenever time permits which I thought was a helpful hint. The only thing Ms. Howse stresses that I don't totally ascribe to is the need to completely abolish the use of hair brushes. I do rely more on combs to style my hair but I did not notice that occasional and infrequent use of brushes for achieving smoothness in certain styles was damaging. I agree that most of the points can be obtained from the website, but it is nice to have them in an organized and very easy readable book. I do recommend the book.

Book Review: Easy to Read
Summary: 4 Stars

I really liked this book and I feel like a learned a few new things from it. I have loaned it out to people a couple times. I also gave my sister a copy. I feel like a lot of the bad reviews are probably from hair stylists beacause she doesn't make them look all that great, which I agree they really aren't.

Book Review: Tips That Work!!!
Summary: 3 Stars

1. Remove all damaged hair, either gradually or all at once.
2. Clip your ends only when split. More frequently is unnecessary and contrary to popular opinion will only make your hair shorter not longer.
3. Drink a high protein supplement. This is the key to accelerating your hair's growth rate exponentially! Hair growth rate can be retarded if one does not get the required daily amount of protein from your diet.
4. Wash and deep-condition your hair every week. The longer you wait to wash your hair, the more you will lose via breaking and shedding.
5. Minimize the use of curling irons, flat irons and hand-held blow dryers. Too much heat damages hair already weakened by relaxers.
6. Always sleep with a satin cap. This will prevent tangles, knots and damage while sleeping.
7. Do not use no-lye relaxers. They do more damage to your hair than regular relaxers by robbing it of moisture.
8. Do not dye (permanent / rinse) or put highlights in your hair. These only weaken and damage your hair leading to excessive breakage.
9. Use the appropriate shampoo and detangling conditioner for your hair type. The right shampoo and conditioner can spell the difference between limp, dry hair and shiny, voluminous hair.
10. No weaves, extensions or braids. The damage to your hair caused by these hairstyles far outweighs any growth benefits you may reap. If you invest the time, money and patience to care your own hair, you will see the rewards.
11. Always be gentle with your hair. No tugging, over-combing or over-brushing.
