The Unmasking Terror series has been a welcome addition to the field of terrorism studies in general and Volume III in this series is another notable contribution to the body of terrorism literature. It is particularly useful in terms of being a handy desk-top reference when you need to get up to speed on the numerous regions of the world where al-Qaeda has been active in recent years. I have bought the previous volumes of the Unmasking Terror series by the Jamestown Foundation and have found this to be an excellent buy for the price. Packed with information, the 550 page book has a lot of detailed analysis for the price. There is really nothing comparable to the Unmasking Terror series in circulation due to the vast number of topics covered in this book.
Like the previous volumes of Unmasking Terror series, Unmasking Terror Volume 3 is a compendium of articles previously published in the Jamestown Foundation's Terrorism Monitor and Terrorism Focus publications which are available for free on their website. This compact volume is a time-saver due to its organization. The book is neatly divided into regions of the world and topics of intelligence related to terrorism, such as jihadi use of the internet, links between terror and crime and al-Qaeda's doctrines and methods of terrorism. The latter section includes excellent contributions from Michael Scheuer, the founder of the CIA's Bin Laden unit and currently a Senior Fellow at the Jamestown Foundation. With its truly international range and expert analysts, the Unmasking Terror series comes at an affordable price. A comprehensive index makes the book a practical and valuable handbook for quick and easy referrals to any region of the world where al-Qaeda or related groups are active.
