Book Reviews of V for Vendetta

Book Review: It's great, but no Watchmen.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is Moore in full force. For once, he turning his power of cultural perception to his native England instead of America (as in Watchmen). V's methods include killing everyone who worked at the concentration camp he was held at, working in the shadows, and staging bombings the way Shakespeare wrote plays or Beethoven conducted symphonies. We never find out who "V" is. The story is, basically, about how legends are made. A tale of mystery, espionage and murder, fans of Moore's work will dig the hell out of this book. However, one of Moore's chief failings, his habit for making his characters a little distant and disconnected from the reader, is ALSO in full force here. The reader never really 'gets into' the characters much, probably due to the 8-page chapter format which emphasizes plot over characterization. The art and color, while it is much tighter than Watchmen's, on the first couple of readings the secondary characters get VERY confusing as their hair color changes, and they look very similar. Still, this is a rich, filling book, and I highly recommend it.

Book Review: Alan Moore is a comic writing master!
Summary: 4 Stars

I will give this book 4 stars because I found the story to bog down at the middle of the book. However, it was still a good book and one I would recomend if you read graphic novels.

Book Review: Possibly Moore's most mature and affecting work..
Summary: 5 Stars

All hyperbolisms aside, V For Vendetta is to comics what 1984 was to literature, it's that good. As much as I adored 'Watchmen', the politicism and totalitariasm of V stuck with me and affected me more. Just marvelous. I love this book.

Book Review: One person can make a difference in the face of evil.
Summary: 5 Stars

A fantastic "What If" set in a Fascist England following a limited nuclear war. "V", a rebel and romantic, strives to right the wrong and wake the complacent citizens of Britain--at all costs. A must read for comic fans, political science students, and everyone else that values freedom and what it means to lose it.

Book Review: The greatest comic book ever written. Period.
Summary: 5 Stars

Can one man make a difference? Most surely yes. That is basically what I feel Moore is trying to say. How one human being who has suffered unimaginable wrongs at the hands of tyrants (under the guise of scientists) can avenge not only himself but his entire nation. The triumph of the human mind and spirit. Thank you Mr. Moore for opening my mind to a reality that otherwise may have gone unnoticed.
