Book Reviews of Valley of the Dolls

Book Review: AHEAD OF IT'S TIME
Summary: 5 Stars

I SAW THE MOVIE A LONG TIME AGO WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, I READ THE BOOK 2 YEARS AGO AND IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIE THE BOOK, WAS SO MUCH BETTER. I MEAN, I REALLY CAN'T EXPLAIN IT, BUT DANM, IT WAS GOOD. THIS IS A MUST READ, IT IS SO UNBELIEVEABLE, THE END OF IT WILL HAVE YOUR MOUTH DROPED WIDE OPEN (REALLY).IT IS DEFINATLY IN MY TOP 5.

Book Review: AMAZING...the best book that I've ever read!
Summary: 5 Stars

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is more addictive than the pills that its heroines take. Sure, its trashy, but trash is by far the most entertaining form of literature. The story of three women's fame and descent into a miserable state of drug use and alchohol is entertaining all the way through. You learn to get to know the characters. You also get to love them, hate them, sympathize for them...its completely spellbinding. I looked forward to picking it up every night, and each night it was practically impossible to put it down ("COME ON..stop reading! You have to go to school tomorrow!") But I got to sleep easily, because each night after I reluctantly put the book down I would fondly recall what I had read. Its just fantastic...maybe I'll read it again. If you're a fan of the movie, I reccomend it even more. Its MUCH better than the film (which I LOVE). Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, NOW!!!

Book Review: AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC OF THE 60s
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm 41 yrs old now, and I can remember vaguely hearing about "Valley of the Dolls" back in 1966 and 1967-- all the sensation that it was causing. Then in 1972 I saw the movie, and a bit later I bought THE BOOK and... and became completely hooked-obsessed with it all. When Jacqueline Susann died on Sept. 21 1974, I was stunned, I thought the world had come to an end. Now 25 years later... "Valley of the Dolls" "The Love Machine" and "Once Is Not Enough" are still, truly, three of the greatest novels ever written. Jackie Collins can't ever hold a candle to Jackie Susann. Jackie Collins hasn't ever written a word that could compare to Jackie Susann. PERIOD.

Book Review: Addiction
Summary: 5 Stars

The book is just as addicting as the characters are addicted to their dolls. I read this novel in two days and I loved every minute of it.

The beauty of this book was the obvious difference between who you should love and who you should hate. The characters were so obvious in my mind. Susann did a wonderful job of illustrating how these women looked and felt. I felt as if I actually knew them.

Although I could never fathom the lives they led, it sure was interesting to read how they lived. I was sad when they were sad and excited when they were excited. I thought that the love stories and betrayal were the most addicting part of the novel. I found myself giddy with anticipation and hope for each characters betterment.

I loved this book and I know it is one of those novels that I can read year after year and never grow tired of.

Book Review: All-Time Favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is my absolute favorite read, which I think says a lot because I read at least 1 book every 2 weeks. I have read Valley about 5 times, and each time I go through the rollercoaster of emotions that take place, including being pissed off and depressed at the end (and after for about 4 days). Jacqueline Susann's other books (Once is Not Enough, The Love Machine) are my second and third favorite books, respectively. If you stopped at Valley and never read on, I STRONGLY advise reading Susann's other two blockbusters. However, if you don't want to read The Love Machine, at least take a look at the last page - it's one of the most amazing endings I have ever read. If Amazon would have let me give this book 345 stars instead of only 5, I would have.
