Book Review: Dull, dull, and more dull

Usually an avid reader, and doubly ravenous when a good book, it took me much longer to get through 'Vampires' than another book of similar size would have done. I found myself putting it down without the desire to pick it back up again. While reading, I felt inclined to skip through entire sections. I yawned often. I watched movies instead. Essentially, I found it boring.
Erik and Dracula are incredibly fascinating characters. Their histories, perspectives and motivations are complex and sophisticated. With such prime materials with which to work, I am still uncertain why Prebler could not explore any depth in either of her two main characters. Instead, the story was driven by sex. In erotica, I expect to have sex on every other page. But to reduce the canon characters to cardboard cutouts is intolerable: I love you, you love me, let's be immortal together because we are soulmates. It left much to be desired.
