Book Reviews of VerdiBook Review: Verdi is fabulous! Summary: 5 Stars
I am 9 years old and in 4th grade. I read Verdi because it is a bluebonnet award nominee in Texas. Once I read 5, I get to vote for my favorite one. Verdi is a story about a yellow snake who leaves his home. His mother tells him to grow up and be green. But Verdi does NOT want to be like the greens. He wants to be himself. But he turns out to be green and himself! I really liked this book because it is funny and it is important to be yourself!
Book Review: Verdi stands alone for content, story and illustration Summary: 5 Stars
As a mother and herpetoculturist I cannot praise this work highly enough. The illustrations are so compelling one can't help looking at them over and over again. Magical and artistic, they are just magnificent. In the tradition of Aesop, the story is one that will engage the children while having a deeper meaning for the adult reader. And as one who is very familiar with this species of snake, I can am impressed with the author's understanding of the distinctive characteristics of this animal. Whether one is seeking a richly visual picture book, a romping children's tale, or an informed public relations piece for a rarely-understood animal, Verdi is masterwork.
Book Review: Verdi teaches kids to be themselves, no mattter what! Summary: 5 Stars
Verdi has won the Texas Bluebonnet Award as the best children's book in Texas. It won the award as the best book in our school, too. It is one of the most important pieces of children's litature I have read in a long time. My 5th graders loved it. It also makes a great gift for grown-ups! Everyone needs to be reminded they are special just the way they are.
Book Review: We looooved Verdi so much.. Summary: 5 Stars
..that we bought every copy that we could find, and then still had to order more in so that we could give a copy to everyone that we knew. Including both our reptile vets, the local snakecatcher and his wife, the reptile keepers of several sanctuaries and zoos in our city and all our family and friends. The only probelm is - now we have to get everyone the matching plush toys and finger puppets!
It's the most beautifully illustrated book I have every seen.. and the story is lovely and has a wonderful lesson in it for us all.
Linda and I keep pythons ourselves, and feel that they are terribly misunderstood little creatures and Verdi, albeit anthropomorphically, shows us all a very special and beautiful side to them that most people take for granted. Call us crazy but they really do have their own little personalities just like Verdi and the grumpy greens do!
Buy it for your children, buy it for your friends or do what we did and buy it for everyone you know!
