Book Review: "What kind of f----- life is this???"

I finished this book about a month ago and was thinking about it again today. I really, really liked it. Someone else on here pointed to the strength of the narrator's voice. Couldn't agree more, it is possbily what makes this such an enjoyable read. He's such an angry, cynical, foul-mouthed young man, and he lives such a bizarre existence throughout the story. I think DBC Pierre was pretty gutsy approaching several themes in this book, but he does it with a biting (some might say sledgehammer) wit and insight that is a joy to read. The overall plot is fairly twisted, but I liked the way it seemed to come together at the end. I'd say that this is one of those rare books that would appeal to young adult male readers - apparently the most elusive and disinterested literary market to break into. As a young adult male, it resonated like hell with me. I wish more novels these days were as dark and biting as this one.
