Book Reviews of ViolinBook Review: Absolute Passion Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far, my favourite novel by Anne Rice. A beautiful story of a woman coming to grips with the death of her husband, in finding solace in the violin music of Tchaikovsky and a ghost who helps her find her way back to living. Written with the same vivid emotion and colour as is in all of her books, you will be transported through many emotions, and thoughts as well as the amazing landscape and surroundings Mrs.Rice is known for.
Book Review: Anne Rice's "Violin" Summary: 4 Stars
Much has been said about Anne Rice's novel Violin. Many that claim it to be distasteful, and the worst of Rice's novels, apparently have not read it with the proper admiration. Any literature lover would be amazed with the novel. You must be either a true devoted Anne Rice fan, or a great lover of literature that will capture writing in its true artistic form. Those that are truly in love with cathartic literature will find this novel an even larger interest...Even though the novel is set at a more autobiographical sense, it possess a very high standard of raw and true emotion. Something found in all of her novels. Take it from me, pick the book up!
Book Review: Bad Story, Good Book Summary: 3 Stars
I have to express the oposite point of view here as Mr. Knight. :) (But for nearly the same reason...)I love Anne Rice, and have for several years. There is simply something marvelous about the immersion in all the infinite details of life as if there were a magical, mystical, romantic quality to everything. And here it is music. Not just any music, but the great music of the great composers, especially Beethoven, the Maestro, who takes a key role in this novel (both in person and in spirit.) But to say it is a "bad story", well, in my mind the plot not only lags a bit, it could very well be non-existent. (Is there a plot - the book is almost sheer poetry, and it is difficult at all to decipher a plot at times!) I say, "bad story" because really, there isn't much of a story here at all. Maybe there could have been but Anne didn't bring it to fruition. I say "good book", because the writing is melodic, even symphonic. It is a joy for any lover of poetry to read. But I couldn't really bring myself to say "Good novel" because a "novel" needs a plot. If you are looking for a good story, look again.
Book Review: Beautifully spoken catharsis Summary: 4 Stars
In this pain-packed volume of beautifully expressed emotion, many demons are conquered -- the most infuriating of which is Stefan, a frustrated Stradivarius-obsessed ghost from long ago Austria, who haunts Triana, a newly widowed lover of classical music. Stefan uses Triana's painful past (a drunken mother, a negligent father, a broken marriage) and various losses (a daughter killed by cancer, a husband killed by AIDS, and a sister whose whereabouts are unknown) in an effort to justify his own sin of killing his father rather than relinquish his beloved Stradivarius. Stefan tells Triana up front that he intends to drive her to madness. Using the misfortune in her life, he gives it a good effort; however, Triana proves herself stronger than he. Rather than harming her, Stefan helps Triana to heal, achieve and overcome. Rice's beautiful writing is disruptive and confusing, and it should be. She is writing about hallucinations, conversations with a ghost, void of physical reality, but filled with the tone and fiber and emotion of dreams everyone experiences. This is a unique book, the first by Anne Rice that I have read, and I believe a very under-appreciated book.
Book Review: Best Book I've Ever Read Summary: 5 Stars
This novel is stunning and difficult to put down. Once I got into the story, I could almost hear the violin music she was describing. Very inspiring and surprisingly uplifting.
