Book Reviews of ViolinBook Review: It is like listening to gothic rock,....only darker... Summary: 5 Stars
This has been one of the best books i have ever read by miss Rice.It is simply a ghost story.About a fiddler who was killed and is haunting someone.......but then things change and the hunter becomes the hunted......A very shot simple read. The book is set in modern times with very little reference to the past which is contrary to the vampire chronicles which uses a lot of history...but nevertheless this book delivers! The beginning is superb the middle is a little slow but exciting and the end, well is sad but true and surprising, not to mention relieving and wonderfully satisfying...Give it a shot...
And to put it simple:The book is set in numerous places, including Vienna, New Orleans (which is typical of Rice's novels) and Rio de Janeiro. The novel tells the story of three people: a young woman yearning to become a musician, a ghostly violinist (hence the title), and the ghost of Beethoven...Enjoy...Nigel.
Book Review: It really is a great book... Summary: 5 Stars
I understand how people can say that they didn't like this Anne Rice book, because it is very different from most all of her others. However, I found the story haunting and beautiful, even though there were certain things I didn't like. Overall, it was wonderfully written, and I thought it was well worth the time it took to read.
Book Review: It took me a year to read this one... Summary: 3 Stars
when I usually stay up all night just to get through one of Anne Rice's books. I must say I was very dissappointed with this one. I picked it up and put it down at least seven or eight times just trying to get "into" it. It took some doing but I finally managed to get through it. I must say it was a forced read. One I would take to the doctors or dentists office, because I wouldnt mind the hours of interruption. As one of her most faithful fans I usually buy or even pre-order her books... My advice for the reader is to buy only if you are curious and then with caution.
Book Review: It was... nice Summary: 3 Stars
Anne Rice's writing is extremely poetic. This book lacked nothing in language... but... the thing that irritated me about the book was the one-sided perspective. In every arguement between Triana and Stefan, Triana was always portrayed as the one who was right- no matter what she said. I empathized more with Stefan. I often felt that his points were true and pursuasive. Yet, through all of it, Triana never seemed to doubt herself. I suppose that should be taken as strength, but I saw it as a weakness. She never seemed to review the situation no matter what changes occured. Triana and Stefan seem to be constantly debating... but nothing changes, so it seems pointless for them to be doing so. And the whole thing about playing the violin so powerfully and famously without her actually even knowing how to play... well, that just seemed completely rediculous. The book as a whole seems somewhat weak for the greatness that is "Anne Rice." Although, there were some very origional and powerful images and experiences thrown in. Those parts made it worth the read. I would recommend this book to people who want to read something that has more of an interesting "inside the character's mind" thing going on than something that tells a story.
Book Review: Jessica's Review on "Violin" (LFMS) Summary: 4 Stars
Anne Rice's novel "Violin" is a book you must read. It is Rice's greatest piece since her other hit "The Witching Hour." In this amazing book, Katrina is haunted by a ghostly violinisist named Stefan who opens by showing her his past. It is full of drama, betrayal, and tragic losses of loved ones. I liked this book because everything seemed so believable compared to her Vampire Chronical. I really did believe that Stefan's past as an aspiring violinist was real. This book will suck you in till the very last page. If you were you forced to read one book this year, read "Violin" by Anne Rice. You will surely enjoy it as much as I did.
