Book Reviews of Violin

Book Review: Rice is playing to a different tune.
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm not a big Anne Rice fan. I don't dislike her, but the mention of her name kinda invokes an indifference in me. I was however pretty impressed with this book. I wasn't blown away by my enthusiasm, but I felt this book was much better than the pulp I've read that she has produced in the past. I don't want to insult the readers of Rice's "regular" novels with the name pulp, but let's be honest that is what it is and believe me there is nothing wrong with it. Literary elitist tend to pick on writers with mainstream appeal and the writers in response spend alot of time finding respect that most of them deserve. I think this was Rice's attempt at doing so. The work reads almost dreamlike, but than quickly fades into a story and neither of which is bad and actually pretty good at times. The beginning of the novel isn't as surreal as it is portrayed by many other reviewers and central part is entertaining. It ends nicely and actually as quickly as it should. This is a nice piece I recommend it, but not to readers wanting the same ole' Anne Rice.

Book Review: Run away!
Summary: 1 Stars

I can't believe this book made it to print. I love Anne Rice. Her gift is incredible but this book did not show it. Reading this book was kin to riding along on someone elses acid trip. It rambled on. At one point I wanted to fling the book out my window into the rain. If you have never read Anne Rice and want to pick up one of her books.....Don't choose this one.

Book Review: Skip it
Summary: 1 Stars

I don't know if you want to read my review or not, since I really haven't read the book all the way through. The truth is, I have problems even getting past the first few chapters. I have tried about 3 times now! This book rambles on like nothing I've ever read before. And I've read Stephen King! If you are the kind of person who likes a GOOD BOOK, not a book that gets good after 5 chapters or so, do NOT read this one. The few chapters I managed to choke down are nothing but meaningless drivel. It seems like Anne Rice is trying way to hard to make this book sound like some great classical novel. That's just the way it comes across. I've never read anything else by Ms. Rice, but I certainly hope her other books aren't as uninspired and boring as "Violin."

Book Review: The first Anne Rice book you may not like.
Summary: 1 Stars

I usually devour her books but this one simply couldn't capture my attention. I spent the whole book from my first meeting with Treana and Stefan wondering where the story line was and I never found it. I found myself skipping pages just to try to get to the heart of the story and the ending just didn't sit well. Where have I heard "go into the light" before? But don't let this book turn you away from a very gifteded writer's works. Turn your attention to Pandora a book that is all but impossible to put down.

Book Review: The worst of the Anne Rice books
Summary: 1 Stars

I have enjoyed all of Anne Rice's books but this one. Not only was it slow, but it felt too personal in a way.
