Book Reviews of Virtual LightBook Review: if you dont get it,you dont get it, but if you do -Wonderful Summary: 4 Stars
I've had people tell me they just cant "get into" W. Gibson's books. I cant even fathom that myself. I have heard complaints about too much needless detail and boring description, poppycock! When I read Virtual Light, as I have with the authors prior works, I feel as if Gibson's world just engulfs me and all those details are stuff of wonder. While I agree that this storyline wasnt the most "cuttingedge" or external-life-blocking as his best. I still get completely enthralled with this familliar yet not so far away future. Another well done universe. Thank you Mr. Gibson!
Book Review: not enough Virtual Light Summary: 2 Stars
I really liked some of the ideas in this novel, but it doesn't seem like Gibson really runs with very many of them. The title, the cover, and the back intro of the novel, suggests that it will be about this cool virtual reality glasses, but they really play a small part of the novel, the reader barely gets to see them in action. I liked the main characters, even though it takes about 200 pages for them to really meet, which seems abit odd. I don't think this is one of Gibson's better books, but don't let this one stop you from reading some of this other novels, especially Neuromancer.
Book Review: stands the test of time. Summary: 4 Stars
William Gibson has passed the test of time again and again. I still hear people talk about the "sprawl" books like they were just written a month ago. Neuromancer was written in '82 and was released in '84, to me that says "pass" on the test of time scale. This book, Virtual Light, is not up to caliber of the 'sprawl' series nor Gibson's short stories for that matter, but it's definatly worth a read.>enjoy-sb
Book Review: what a snore Summary: 1 Stars
A dreadful waste of time. No plot, no story, lots of endless running around to no purpose
Book Review: wow Summary: 4 Stars
The first cyberpunk novel I have ever read. I was not disappointed one bit and was even pleasantly surprised with how much i enjoyed it. The ideas in this text were amazing and really got my mind thinking. The social structure built on the bridge, a collage of scrap that, together made up peoples lives. The religion based around television, The computor based dictatorship - all totally believable and even probable as the human desire and dependence for and upon technology increases daily. The charcters are difficult to penatrate but dont be fooled into thinking that they are superficial or underdeveloped, they are as deep and real as you and I and are worth the effort spent in the uncovering of their layers.
