Book Reviews of Virtual LightBook Review: Not Gibson's best, but still pretty good... Summary: 3 Stars
As a former San Franciscan myself, I liked his vision of the Bay Area's future. And I always love the detailed landscapes he creates. I always feel like I'm getting a real glimpse into the near future when I read his work. However with this novel things begin to feel a little formulaic for me. His novels all seem to start with loosely related story lines that gradually grow closer together. Still, a very fun read.
Book Review: Not as good as Neuromancer.... Summary: 2 Stars
Anyone who has read any other of William Gibsons' books will find 'Virtual Light' totally unsatisfying. However, it still manages to grasp you until the 2/3ds of the book and after that it seems like there is a rush to finish the book.
Book Review: One of the best books I ever read Summary: 5 Stars
I have not been able to get the story, setting or characters from this book out of my head. I still dream about it. I was profoundly astonished to find this gem. I think it is his very finest by far.
Book Review: Outstanding read Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking for an adrenaline filled roller-coaster ride then you should look elsewhere. While far from boring this book is like a fine whiskey in that it is meant to be consumed slowly and enjoyed thoroughly. The characters are memorable not for heroic traits or super-human abilities. They are instead memorable as basically normal people who are thrust into extraordinary circumstances. It becomes a true delight when we are given glimpses into their thoughts. This trilogy is at least as good as his Neuromancer trilogy and there is an odd, intriguing asymmetry between the underlying themes of the two trilogies.
Book Review: Painfully bad (and I LOVE Gibson's work) Summary: 2 Stars
Please please please do not let this be your first or only Gibson book. It is incredibly shallow, trite and painfully contrived. Get Neuromancer instead, because it is a much more deeply woven story.
