Book Reviews of Walk Two Moons

Book Review: 5 Stars well deserved
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of my all time favorite books. I first read it when I was and sixth grade for a class assignment and couldn't put it down. I even went and bought my own copy so I could find out what happened next. At the end be prepaired to cry though. Even though this is considered a kids book, it is still one of my favorites and I would recommend it to teen readers also.

Book Review: 7th grade book review #2 ~ by nemo dolphin
Summary: 4 Stars

Sharon Creech creates an amazing story of a young girl, who experiences love, death, and learns the true meaning of family. Salamanca Tree Hiddle (known as Sal) goes on a road trip to Lewiston, Idaho with her grandparents, retracing the steps of her beloved runaway mother. Sal, her mother and father, lived on a farm in Bybanks, Kentucky, but after her mother ran away, they moved to Ohio and lived next to the mysterious Mrs. Cadaver.
During the road trip Sal's grandparents say, "How about a story? Spin us a yarn," and that is the beginning of the story of Phoebe Winterbottom, Sal's friend who has an imagination bigger than the universe. As Sal recalls all the amazing adventures that she has had with Phoebe, she realizes that underneath Phoebe's story, lies her own story.

Even though her father says that she's "fishing in air," regarding her quest to find her mother, Sal continues on, racing against time to reach Idaho by her mother's birthday, hoping that maybe she could convince her to return home. Creech vividly describes each landmark Sal and her grandparents visit on their cross-country odyssey. Within a second, the reader is right there with Sal, gazing up at Mt. Rushmore or feeling the mist of Old Faithful.

Personally, I thought this was the best Newberry Award book I have ever read. Creech's writing style keeps the reader glued to the book by introducing questions, and answering them, later in the story. Each chapter in this book reveals yet another part of Sal's life, but at the end of the book, she still leaves a whole chunk out of Sal's background. I rate this book a 4 out of 5 because at times it's becomes slow and repetitive. I like this writing style because it feels like you actually meet Salamanca Tree Hiddle in the way that you know some stuff about her, but not quite everything.

Book Review: A Book That Takes 13 Year-Olds Seriously
Summary: 5 Stars

An amazing book. I first read it in English Class (seventh grade) and when the teacher, Mrs. Urso said we were reading this I thought it would be dumb and uninteresting. To my surprise the book took thirteen year-olds seriously. I found Salamanca's character intriguing and atrractive, I found Ben's character quirky and (though you may not believe it) a lot like me. All and all one of my favorite books. And take this review from a teenager who has read Alice and Wonderland one and two, Dune, Shogun, Tai-Pan, The Princess and the Goblins, The Secret Garden, and Don Quoxite.

Book Review: A Definite Learning Experience!
Summary: 5 Stars

Sharon Creech delivers an indepth look at the life of a young girl. Walk Two Moons teaches some of life's most valuable lessons in simplest terms. Being written in first person, the reader is able to identify and empathize with the main character, Salamnca. They are able to "walk two moons" in her "mocassins". This book is exceptionally well written. Anyone who is young at heart will enjoy this book!
