Book Review: "What made his movements stiff..."
Summary: 3 Stars
Entertaining book and re-enactment of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". In the vein of DeLint, the story doesn't hold on to its sense of magic and place quite as strongly as DeLint but certainly a good story and well-built characters. The extensive peppering of lyrics and over-wrought moments depicting the spells woven by the band in the course of jamming were a bit tedious and after too many of those (which didn't really contribute anything to the story but poetic pauses), I found myself bouncing over them to get on with the story. [To quote another reviewer, Cydney P., "This novel is full of 80's clothes and music. I found myself scanning the pages looking for the meat of the story and skipping the out of date clothing descriptions."] A study of Tanith Lee or Patricia McKillip would do world's of good.
