Book Reviews of WeaveworldBook Review: Fantastic fantasy Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very good book. I had never read any Barker books so I am not biased by his previous works. I was expecting a horror tale instead I got a fantasy book with some suspense/thriller elements which is fine by me as I'm just after a good read and on that point Weaveworld delivers.
Fantasy books are escapism and to a certain extent require you to leave your logical reasoning behind, however I find myself occasionally questioning some aspects e.g. when Suzanna (the heroine) first discovers she has magical powers "menstruum" she lays waste to a couple of cops. However for the rest of the novel she is on the run from two men Hobart & Shadwell who don't have any magical powers (although Shadwell has a special jacket). It doesn't make sense to me. Barker should've done a better job explaining why she is on the run from them when she has powers & they don't.
This is a big, long book and I really enjoyed it, it is magical.
Book Review: Fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
Clive Barker is a genius. I've been reading him for years and he never ceases to impress me. I just read Weaveworld about three weeks ago. This was such a fabulous book. I could not put it down. Barker writes with such style, such pure artsistry, that he pulls you in and doesn't let you come up for air until the book is finished. Barker brings us the story of Cal, a man working a complacent job at an insurance firm who one day loses his prize pigeon in a whirl of chaos and confusion that leads him into the grips of the fugue. The Fugue is a place of wonders, a home to the Seerkind, a race of magical beings that can bring magic to life at their very fingertips. Cal falls in love with their race and his human companion whose grandmother kept hold of the fugue in a woven rug for decades. From their we experience adventure, terror, love, tragedy, and about every emotion one can think of. This book was a godsend and a classic piece of literature. Barker has a mind like no other, and he has my very deepest respect. This book was miraculous!
Book Review: Fascinating Read Summary: 5 Stars
Weaveworld is one the weirdest trips that Clive Barker has to offer. This book will haul you in from its first pages to the very end. I found myself consumed, every night, after I put it down, with a desire to lift it back up and read till dawn. I can't stress enough that Clive Barker is a fantasy writer/wordsmith who has a clear, unfettered and virgin channel to his inner voice. Start the journey.
Book Review: Jules Vernes could have dreamed it. Summary: 4 Stars
Weaveworld is like a dream that Jules Verne could have made. a fantastic story between reality and imaginary. A world into a world. If you have a great imagination, read this book. It's simply an extraordinary journey waiting for you. Great characters, weirdest and scariest situations. It's 100% Barker made without a doubt. You'll think of Hellraiser, Nightbreed...
Book Review: Just a must read for horror fans and great storrytelling Summary: 5 Stars
This book was referred to me buy the reviews for Stephen king's The Talisman and King's The Black house. Both those books are with King's finest work, along with the Dark Tower series. This book Weaveworld has elements of those novels, such as alternate realities, but in a very unique way. One of the best books i've read and will ever read i predict. I savored every page and the prose really creates a vivid world i only truly fully imagine by master storytellers. This book raised the bar of my expectations for the genre, and has not been matched yet, and i read a book a week. Clive Barker will soon be a favorite author of mine as i get further into his fictional body of work. Ive read The book of blood vol. 1 - 3 and love it. Weaveworld would make a great movie if it had a large budget and great producers and directors got on board. But the book is a piece of treasure and i cannot reccomend a better epic tale to blow your mind.
