Book Reviews of WeaveworldBook Review: An imaginative fantasy horror Summary: 4 StarsWeaveworld is an epic fantasy novel, which involves a slightly different and unconventional tale of good versus evil. The basis of the story is as follows: centuries ago there where to separate races, the Humans and the Seerkind, at first they lived in harmony, working together, but slowly the humans took over and many considered the Seerkind as freaks. The Seerkind realised the imminent danger and so used their magics to weave a huge and beautiful carpet in which they could live peacefully. But there were those who wished the destruction of the carpet, and as the last protector dies, the position turns to the innocents Cal Mooney and Suzanna Parrish. This is a huge tale of terrifying ideas, of loves gained and lost, of the power of knowing your true self. Although this is a fantastically exciting and wonderfully imaginative book, I felt the two heroes' where underdeveloped and could not be sympathised with. Much superior where the characters of the evil side, who had strong motives and personalities. I recommend this novel to fantasy and horror enthusiasts.
Book Review: Weaving a story to be enjoyed for years Summary: 5 StarsI first read this book when I was 16 - 7 years ago. To this day it remains one of the best books I have ever read. My cousin lent it to me, uickly describing the general storyline. From what she said (that it was about a world weaved into a carpet; fight against good and evil, etc), I was dubious to say the least. But this is the thing with such a book - it is impossible to desrcibe and convey just how good it is. The story includes many different elements - it is not just horror; there are moments which make you stop reading and think about what has just been said. This was the first book by Barker which I read and I was not disappointed. The only problem with the book was that, because it was so good, the only other book by Barker which I have read is "Abarat". Something as good as "Weaveworld" doesn't come along every day, even for writers such as Barker.
Book Review: Majestic Summary: 5 StarsSimply the best horror fantasy I have ever read. A joy from start to finish, the shifts between the normal and astounding dimensions are paper thin and sliding between them seems so damn possible. I read this ten or so years ago whilst at college and just seeing a review whilst browsing has led me to immediately buy it again. A beautiful, majestic, terryfing, heart warming journey for your soul, take it now!!!!!!!!
Book Review: Masterpiece Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of my favourite books ever. I am a massive fan of Clive Barker's work but this is brilliant. I loved his characters, his ideas (in true Barker style) are fantastic, it is a flawless book. Seriously advise you read it.
Book Review: Storytelling at it's best Summary: 5 StarsThis book is memorable for it's stroyline. Don't get me wrong, the characters are all well portrayed but for me are not what i remember the most.Whereas most authors slowly build up to the climax at the end of the story, Barker seems to do this half a dozen times. You realy think you are nearing the end and then a new plot starts up. Quite simply well written, entertaining and certainly not predicatble.
