Book Review: A great mix that takes off running and rarely slows down.
Summary: 5 Stars
Greek mythology, computers, hackers, faeries, goblins and trolls in one book? Sounds like it could have been a mess, but I found just the opposite! The concepts worked so well together that once I had the universe in my head out it was a great ride!
What helped was that the author seemed to have the universe figured out in his head, so I didn't bump into anything that didn't fit. Surprised me, maybe, but things made sense. No feeling of making it up as they went along. Another thing that helped was that ideas, characters and concepts were introduced and explained in a way that kept the reader informed and got the story moving. In some cases, at breakneck speed.
I know just enough about computers to really mess mine up on occasion, know practically nothing about Greek mythology, and have read enough fantasy to know that each series has it's own rules about trolls, pixies and the like. But you don't have to know anything about any of that, really. The story unfolds in a way that taught you what you needed to know when you needed it, while moving things along quite fast.
Plus, mix in the dialog and camaraderie of Ravirn and his familiar, Melchior, and you've got a buddy story on top of all that! What more could I want? Why, the next in the series, of course!
I'm glad I bought the next two books beforehand. After staying up all night with the first one, I can't wait to jump into book two to see if it's as much fun as the first. This one goes on my keeper shelf.
