Book Reviews of What the Bleep Do We Know!?: Discovering the Endless Possibilities for Altering Your Everyday RealityBook Review: What the Bleep do we know Summary: 4 StarsI've seen it twice and needed to. Would like more scientific explanation in future to validate views
Book Review: FILLING IN THE BLANKS Summary: 4 StarsThe movie was excellent, but the book really fleshes out the ideas. If I had a choice, the book would be it.
Book Review: Fills in the gaps Summary: 5 StarsI had seen the movie 4 times before reading this book. I was pleased to find that the book fills in a lot of knowledge that the movie just touched on. It gives you a lot of avenues for further exploration and gives easily understandable explanations of some scientific concepts. I enjoyed reading and learning through it very much.
Book Review: Discovering the Endless Possibilities for Altering Your Everyday reality Summary: 5 StarsAbsolutely a must read. Fabulous
Book Review: A disappointment Summary: 2 StarsI thoroughly enjoyed both "What the Bleep" movies, and I'm very sorry to be giving this book such a low rating, but it disappointed me. I have buyer's remorse. One of the unfortunate circumstances of buying books online is that one can't peruse the volume before purchase -- had I been able to do so, I would never have bought it.
It's slick, it's pretty; it's shallow. It doesn't, as I had hoped, give me (much) more from the miscelaneous "talking heads" from the movies, instead focusing on the experiences and opinions of the filmmakers: William Arntz, Betsy Chasse, and Mark Vicente.
Everything covered (again, I have to say: shallowly) by this book: the split between religion and science in Western culture, for example, or the power of positive intention in controlled experiments, is covered in the second "Bleep" movie, "Down the Rabbit Hole." And the movie is considerably more interesting, informative, and less precious than this book.
If you DON'T mind the abbreviated nature of the discussions, and you also don't mind being asked a pack of "thought-provoking" questions [How long can you hold a thought? Can you think of an apple without thinking round?] every few pages, this book may be a good buy for you. Likewise, if you are not able to see the second movie, some of the points brought forth may surprise, delight, and inform you.
But in general, I don't recommend this book.
