Book Reviews of What to Expect When You're Expecting, Third EditionBook Review: Highly recommended for first pregnancies. Summary: 4 StarsI am in my third trimester and I find this book immensely comforting. This is my first pregnancy and I am sure I am like other women who have a million 'silly' questions but are too shy to call their doctor or midwife every 2 days. This book has answered all my fears, some of them so trivial but still worrying to a first time mother. It has separate chapters on each month and details the changes our bodies go through. It offers insight on the different relaxation methods available for childbirth. It taught me how to sit and sleep more comfortably in these last months.I recommend this book to any woman in her first pregnancy.
Book Review: Detailed, informative manual - a must for the first timer Summary: 5 StarsHaving already bought 2 other pregnancy books, I borrowed this from the library. Now I don't want to part with it and having renewed it 3 times, will now buy it. It is very detailed and clearly written. It is a US publication which has been edited for the British market but mostly that does not cause a problem. I find the approach very straightforward and information easy to track down. It has answered a number of queries which otherwise might have sent me running to the midwife or GP. The labour and birth section is very helpful to birth partners too. It lacks any nice photos and doesn't have the reassuring feel of say, the Miriam Stoppard book (my other essential book) but I would highly recommend this book.
Book Review: What to expect is not quite what I expected! Summary: 3 StarsI bought a copy last year in July 2004 just as I became pregnant for the first time. Although it covers a broad range of information and most of it is usful. I found it glossed over a large amount of information and didn't provide me with the more indepth knowledge I was seeking. If you want a book that fully answers your questions then this isn't the book for you. However if you want a superficial read that stops short of filling the information void on what's happening inside your body then please buy this book!
Book Review: Helpful, straightforward advice Summary: 5 StarsI'm expecting my first baby and this is by far the best pregnancy book I've come across. Very straightforward, down to earth advice right from the start.
Book Review: what to expect Summary: 5 StarsOut of the dozen pregnancy books I had, this was the one I found the best and most helpful. It had the answers to all my questions in each month (is this aching feeling normal? why are my legs crampy? and so on). It really helped me not to panic. I read the part on true and false labor symptoms almost every evening at the finish, but at least I had no doubt when the time has come.
