Book Reviews of What to Expect When You're Expecting, Third EditionBook Review: Great Book! Summary: 4 StarsUnlike many of the others who have commented, I did not get the feeling of 'having' to conform to the authors suggestions verbatim, particularly regarding diet. They were good informative suggestions, but left as that. I never felt forced to eat 'wheat germ', nor did I feel scared if my pregnancy was not up to par with the authors phases and suggestions. All in all I found that most of my questions were completely answered in this book with it's question/answer format. This is a great reference book and deals sensitively with the emotional process a pregnant woman goes through as well. I recommend this book, particularly for first time mothers.
Book Review: Good book to have but not the best Summary: 3 StarsI found this book to be informative but not the best book to read if you're expecting. I agree with some of the other readers about the Best Odds Diet. Who eats wheat germ - pregnant or not pregnant? The book made you feel that if you didn't follow the diet exactly that your baby would not be okay. I also found that there could have been more information on fetal development and perhaps some photographs of the different phases of development. I did find the book helpful but it was by no means my 'pregnancy bible'.
Book Review: A good book, but has some problems... Summary: 3 StarsI consulted this book from the moment I found out I was pregnant, and it has some very good information, but it can be very scary also. It gives the impression that unless the things you are going through are exactly as they are in the book, then there is something wrong. For example, it's states that Braxton-Hicks contractions are "painless", but they can actually be painful, as I later found out. It also makes you feel that if you ever eat a teaspoon of sugar, or anything not quite healthy, that you are somehow damaging your baby and even yourself. It is basically a good book, but you need to read it with an open mind, because no one has a "textbook" pregnancy and can go nine months without eating a piece of chocolate cake!
Book Review: Best resource I found! Summary: 5 StarsI had some people scare me about this book, saying it focused too much on the negative. If anyboy says that to you, DON'T LISTEN! I found it very reassuring, especially if you are worried about those negatives. It helps you know what's healthy and normal, and what to call the doctor about. No other resource seemed to be nearly so extensive as this book was. I highly recommend it.
Book Review: I thought this book was fab!!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI was so grateful to find this book as it answered every question I could think of and believe me I had quite a few!!! I can now say im going into this knowing all that I can possibly know. I have also bought the "what to expect the first year", and it is full of great information.
